Acer’s NVIDIA Ion toting Aspire Revo nettop is getting a much-needed processor bump, with the company swapping out the breathless single-core Atom 230 CPU for its dual-core Atom 330 counterpart.  The compact nettop also gets more memory and bigger hard-drives, the former doubling to 4GB and the latter offering either 320GB or 500GB.

Netbooks generally fall flat when it comes to high-definition video playback, with Intel’s GMA 950 graphics chipset struggling even with 720p clips.  Broadcom’s BCM70012 video accelerator changes all that, though; a mini PCI-e card, it can handle up to 1080p video with minimal CPU strain on the host system.  So far it’s tough finding a netbook with the Broadcom card as an option – HP offer it as an option for their Mini 110 XP – but that didn’t stop Terracode from upgrading their 8.9-inch Acer Aspire One with the HD accelerator.

Details of Acer’s new mainstream business notebooks have emerged, the Acer Travelmate Timeline series.  As the name suggests, the range is based on the existing 13.3-inch, 14-inch and 15.6-inch Aspire 3810T, 4810T and 5810T Timeline models, complete with their CULV low-voltage processors.  However the new Travelmates have magnesium alloy chassis for improved durability, together with dedicated anti-shock software and biometric security.

Gateway have announced a new netbook, the LT2000, a 10.1-inch Intel Atom N270 based machine with 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard-drive.  While the specs of the Gateway LT2000 may not be anything unusual, the company is hoping that the $299.99 sticker price will tempt in buyers.

Whew! The week is over already and this has been another busy one here at SlashGear with more new announcements and gear than we can shake a stick at. Things kicked off this week with a video of the LG BL40 Black Label feature phone hitting the Web. This was a good thing since we hate teaser campaigns. One of the cooler things from early in the week was the Fujifilm announcement of the FinePix Real 3D digital camera coming this year. The only downside is the camera is about $600 and the digital frame required to see the photos goes for another $200.

Acer haven’t been especially shy about their smartphone plans but, according to the latest leaks over in Taiwan, the company could be closer to launching their range than originally suspected.  The Acer F1 shown here – together with the A1, C1/E1 and L1 – will apparently arrive “at the end of September and in the fourth quarter of this year”.

Acer subsidiary eMachines have released another all-in-one desktop PC, the EZ1601-01, promising “high-style” for a budget price of just $399.99.  Stylish it may (arguably) be, but the EZ1601-01 isn’t likely to set any desks aflame; inside the gloss-black casing lurks an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor, paired with 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard-drive.

In a deeply frustrating move, Acer have released a new version of their Atom-based nettop, addressing one of the key issues we had with the first-gen AspireRevo but then scuppering it in another way.  The Acer Veriton N260G switches the original AspireRevo’s mediocre 1.6GHz Atom 230 or 330 processor for a far more welcome 1.66GHz Atom N280, but simultaneously drops the NVIDIA Ion GPU we so admired.
