Native Union turns your iPhone and iPad into a dual-line deskphone

, Mar 22nd 2012 Discuss [0]

Native Union has been pushing its corded handsets for smartphones for some time now, but the Curve Twin is perhaps the first we'd actually have on our desk. Hooking up a tactile, soft-touch wired handset to two devices - Native Union is pushing the idea of your iPhone and iPad, though anything with a 3.5mm jack will work - and then propping them up on a stand, the Curve Twin can flick between the lines at the push of a button. Motorola certainly hopes so; its MOTOACTV impressed reviewers well enough but its price tag has dissuaded all but the most enthusiastic of wrist-computer buyers. Now there's the MOTOACTV Golf Edition, a special collaboration with PGA Tour winner Bubba Watson that offers tracking data for 20,000 courses worldwide, and allows golfers to compare their performance online with that of pros. Sony‘s first attempt at a smart watch, the Sony Ericsson LiveView, promised plenty and delivered disappointment, and so the company has returned with the Sony SmartWatch. The concept is the same – put a tiny sub-display on your wrist, so that you can monitor your phone’s notifications from afar – but the hardware has received a welcome boost, with an OLED touchscreen promising more intuitive navigation. Is the SmartWatch the gadget your wrist has been waiting for? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

GeChic On-Lap 1302 gives you a bigger screen on the go

The new GeChic On-Lap 1302 does something for smartphones that I can't say I have ever wanted - adds a larger second screen. The thing I like about my smartphone is that it is small and portable. I'm willing to give up a large screen for that small and portable nature, but if you're not this may be the screen for you. This external display is specifically designed for on the go use and measures 13.3-inches. Read The Full Story

JuiceTank case charges your iPhone directly from a wall outlet

I always charged my iPhone each night by docking it on my iPhone alarm clock next to the bed. The only time I ever used a charge cable and adapter was when I was traveling. The problem was each time I went somewhere I would forget the cable or the part that plugs into the wall. When I could find them, it often took forever to put my hands on the charger because I forgot where I put it the last time I used it. Read The Full Story

A Dell display is an iPad devs’ best friend

The iOS developer's best friend might not be a new iMac or even a Mac Pro, when looking to create Retina Display apps for the new iPad, but in fact hardware with the far less fashionable Dell logo. Apple's Phil Schiller joked during the new iPad keynote yesterday that the 2048 x 1536 tablet actually had more pixels than the floor to ceiling presentation screen behind him; however, that resolution presents a significant issue for iOS app developers, since none of Apple's own OS X hardware supports the new iPad's full resolution. mu Folding USB Plug hands-on

The Folding Plug concept of 2009 was a design we always hoped would reach production, and while it took a few years, the first freshly-renamed mu plugs are landing with owners, SlashGear included. The handiwork of designer Min Kyo Choi, the premise is straightforward: do away with the majority of the bulk of a UK three-pin plug, creating something both readily portable and flexible.
