Mophie has been making battery cases for various smartphones for a number of years that extend the runtime between charges. Some of the most popular battery cases that the company offers are designed for Apple’s range of iPhones including the new iPhone 5. Mophie has announced a new battery case for the iPhone 5 that promises to significantly increase the runtime of the device.

The case is called the juice pack plus and promises 120% extra power in a thin case. Not only does the case provide extra runtime the iPhone 5, but it also helps to protect the phone from drops and impacts. Inside the case is a 2100 mAh battery promising 120% additional battery life for the iPhone 5 user.

Mophie also promises that the case itself won’t damage the iPhone 5 thanks to features like anti-scratch guides to buffer the impact of falls and a direct injection sleeve engineered with a special shockproof band. The case is offered in three different colors including a soft touch black case, glossy white, and metallic red. The red case is a collaboration with Product (RED).

The large battery pack inside the case promises up to 10 additional hours of talk time on a 3G network. Users can also get up to 12 additional hours of Wi-Fi use and up to 50 additional hours of audio playback. The battery pack can also provide up to 12 additional hours of video playback. Users can charge the phone and sync the device without removing it from the case.

It features a lightning pass through using the included micro USB cable. Users can also connect their headphones to the iPhone 5 without removing it from the case. A flip switch is integrated to allow users to toggle between charging using the juice pack plus battery or standby for the battery so it’s there when you need it. The case is also fitted with an LED indicator showing how much power is left in the case and the case has one amp charging allowing it to charge quicker than when using a standard .5A system. You can purchase the iPhone 5 juice pack plus right now for $119.95.

Nokia’s Asha 501 may be catching the attention this morning for its slick design and $99 price, but the new DC-18 charger isn’t going to let a smartphone get all the style kudos. It may only be an external power pack, but the Universal Portable USB Charger DC-18 manages to look better than most such bricks we’ve seen, though its 1,720 mAh capacity probably means you’ll only get a single recharge out of it.

The small capacity is down to the relatively small size, with the DC-18 measuring in at just 57 x 57 x 14.9 mm and 65g. Up front there’s a battery status indicator, which lights up with the current charge level when you pull out the retractable microUSB cable.

Pulling the cable free turns the DC-18 on, while tucking it back into place turns it off. That does leave the microUSB plug itself protruding, which seems like a recipe for getting it caught on your bag or the lining of your coat pocket, however.

Nokia will offer the DC-18 in four colors – a Lumia and Asha 501 matching cyan, magenta, white, and yellow – though the company is yet to confirm pricing. We’re guessing it’ll be relatively affordable, however, since the DC-16 (which actually has a larger, 2,200 mAh battery) portable charger comes in at around $40.

Back in late March, I talked about a new gaming peripheral but it turned up on Crown source funding site Kickstarter called the Stinky Gaming Footboard. The device was a gaming controller that allows you to use your feet to and control input to various video games. The project was originally seeking $75,000.

The gaming controller has a special cross shape and four programmable buttons. You can map those buttons to various commands using the videogame software. The device is designed to be very flexible allowing the users to place it in any direction they want and teasing with one or both feet.

The designer made the footboard to be easy to return to neutral position after you activate key. One of the more interesting features of the Stinky Footboard is that the device shipped with multiple Springs allowing you to customize the tension to your preferences. The project has now met it Kickstarter funding goal.

In fact, it raised a bit more than its goal of $75,000 racking up a total of $79,562. The funding goal is met yesterday and the controller cost those who backed the project $89 or more. Shipping is expected to happen in July of 2013, but you’d be safe to expect some delays. The laser very common with Kickstarter projects as roadblocks are hit during the ramp-up to production frequently.

If you’ve been using the iPhone for a long time and upgraded to the iPhone 5 when it launched, I’d wager you have a number of accessories, such as speaker docks, in your house or office that you can no longer use. That’s because the iPhone 5 went to a new docking adapter that is incompatible with previous generation chargers and accessories without using an Apple adapter. That adapter isn’t exactly an attractive solution and may not work with some speaker docks.

Pyle is an audio brand that has been around for a long time and the company has announced a new Bluetooth receiver specifically designed to connect to iPod docks and turn them into wireless speakers. The Bluetooth receiver is called the Pyle Home PBTR70. One of the more interesting things about this Bluetooth receiver is that it makes your previously Apple only speaker docks universal.

It uses Bluetooth technology supporting anything including your iPhone, BlackBerry devices, Android devices, and more. It also has a 3.5 mm audio input for devices that lack Bluetooth connectivity. The wireless adapter promises a range of 33 feet and should give you plenty of distance for streaming your music all around the room or office.

The adapter measures 2.15 a 2.15 x 0.45-inches. The PBTR70 is available to order right now for $66.99. This is an interesting and decently priced product to help you get more use out of your obsolete speaker docks.

There are a lot of things you can do with the tablet such as the iPad other than simply surfing the Internet, replying to e-mails, and watching video. Many professional and semiprofessional artists all around the world use iPads and other tablets as digital art books. You can draw on these tablets with various applications using your fingers or other accessories.

A company called Adonit has launched a new stylus specifically aimed at the iPad user called the Jot Touch 4. The stylus supports 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity and is able to provide natural lines. The stylus also supports palm rejection allowing you to rest your hands on the screen as you work. Knowing that your palm or other fingers isn’t going to accidentally destroy your art is a big deal.

The stylus pairs to the iPad using Bluetooth 4.0. Battery life for the stylus is one month per charge and it charges via USB. The stylus also features a pair of shortcut buttons close to the tip allowing you to access software tools quickly and perform undo functions or switch colors with a press. The pointed tip of the pen isn’t what touches the screen of your tablet.

The round clear disk is what actually glides across the screen of your tablet and since it’s clear you can see exactly what sort of line you’re making. The tip also has a dampening functionality that makes it feel as if you’re writing with a pen on paper. That dampening tip also helps reduce noise allowing you to work in silence. The stylus is available right now for $89.99.

Mophie may be best known for its Juice packs for the iPhone, but the company has made one of its rare Android detours with a battery case for the HTC One. Shipping now, in black at least, the Mophie Juice Pack for the HTC One squeezes a 2,500 mAh battery – 200 mAh more than the One itself has – into a bow-backed shell for the smartphone, that the company claims can boost runtime by 100-percent.

Given the HTC One’s battery is non-removable, the Mophie promises to answer one of the biggest criticisms potential owners have of the phone (we only wish it added a microSD card reader, too). Like other Juice Packs, the One variant has pass-through USB for charging both phone and case, as well as synchronizing your phone with your computer, and an LED indicator row on the lower back to show the case’s remaining charge.

There’s also a standby-switch which, if flicked on, saves the Mophie’s power until you specifically want it; otherwise, the phone will run on its own battery. You still get access to the camera and – thanks to pass-through keys – the buttons for volume, power, and such. Mophie has even considered the IR blaster HTC built into the power button, which still works even with the Juice Pack in place.

Of course, the downside of strapping an extra battery to your phone is added bulk, and the Juice Pack does indeed add some heft to the svelte One. Together, they measure in at 2.88 x 6.06 x 0.76 inches, and the Mophie adds 5.05oz, effectively doubling the weight of the phone.

That may be easy to overlook if it means you can keep using your One, however. We found that Zoe photography – HTC’s mixture of burst-stills and short HD video clips – was particularly power-hungry in our review of the phone, and as such keen shutterbugs hoping to get the most out of the phone’s UltraPixel camera may well be the obvious target for Mophie’s new accessory. It’s shipping now in black, priced at $99.95, while the silver version will follow on in mid-May.

It’s taken a while – a very long while – but Belkin’s Thunderbolt Express Dock has finally hit shelves, offering Mac users a simple way to hook up a workstation’s-worth of peripherals by stringing a single cable. First announced back in January 2012, and clearly missing its original release date in September of the same year, the $299.99 Thunderbolt Express Dock offers three USB 3.0 ports, gigabit ethernet, and a pass-through Thunderbolt connector of its own, among other things.

That second Thunderbolt (the first hooking the dock up to your Mac or MacBook) means you can attach up to five more Thunderbolt devices to the same machine. As we’ve already seen, Thunderbolt’s hefty throughput – bidirectional 10Gbps, in fact – means you can have RAID arrays, Full HD displays, A/V interfaces, and more, all connected and operating simultaneously.

The dock also includes a single FireWire 800 port, handy if you’ve got legacy devices but a newer Mac which dropped the connection, and both audio-in and audio-out. In total, Belkin says, you can hook up eight devices with a single cable to your Mac.

It’s not exactly cheap for a dock, and we’re a little unimpressed that Belkin doesn’t even include the Thunderbolt cable you’ll need in order to use it. Still, if you want to make your MacBook Pro the hub of a desktop setup, it’s a straightforward way to do that without needing to hook up half a dozen cables every time you get home or into the office.

When it comes to accessories for your iPhone or iPad, there really are accessories for every need. If you need to be able to attach a microscope over the camera lens of your iPhone or iPad, there is an accessory for that. A company called Bodelin Technologies has introduced a new accessory for the iPhone and iPad called the ProScope Micro Mobile.

The company says that the ProScope Micro Mobile is the first professional handheld microscope for the iPad, iPhone, iPad mini, iPod Touch, and other mobile devices. The microscope accessory itself uses precision optical glass allowing edge to edge imaging and magnification ranging from 20x up to 80x. The microscope attachment features 12 white LEDs arranged in two alternating circles around the lens allowing for polarized and reflecting light.

Light output from those LEDs is intensity adjustable with a three-way power saving switch. The light is powered by an internal lithium-ion battery promising up to five hours of continuous use of the LEDs. When that battery pack runs out, it can be recharged by connecting the lens lighting system to a USB port.

The microscope can also be used to view slides using any sort of backlighting, including things like a photographer’s light pad and more. The microscope itself is the same for any device with the company offering special sleeves to fit individual Apple gadgets for holding the microscope in place over the camera lens. There are currently sleeves available for the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, fourth and fifth generation iPod Touch, iPad mini, and the full-size iPad. Pre-ordering for the ProScope Micro Mobile is underway now for $149 with shipping kicking off on May 1.

Keyboard cases for the iPad are nothing new, there are plenty of them on the market today. That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for new offerings that are either easier-to-use, better looking, or more durable. Logitech has unveiled a new keyboard cover called the FabricSkin Keyboard Folio that brings the style of the Microsoft Surface RT to your iPad.

The keyboard folio is available in multiple colors including Mars Red Orange, Carbon Black, Mystic Blue, and Sunflower Yellow. The design of the new keyboard case protects the iPad on the front and the back with a wraparound design. Logitech equips the device with a magnetic clasp to keep the folio closed when you’re traveling.

The keyboard folio also has an integrated magnetic stand to allow you to prop the screen of your tablet up for comfortable typing or lay it flat depending on your needs. The keyboard section connects to your tablet using Bluetooth and the keyboard is spill resistant. The FabricSkin Keyboard has magnets on the edges near the iPad frame that automatically puts the iPad to sleep when you close the folio and wakes it up when you open the cover.

Power for the rechargeable keyboard comes from an internal rechargeable battery that charges using a USB port. Logitech claims you can get three months of usable battery life on a single full charge. The retail price for the FabricSkin Keyboard Folio is $149.99. You can pre-order the keyboard folio right now but the shipping date is unknown. The case is designed to work with the iPad 2 and third and fourth generation iPad tablets.

If you use an iPhone 4/4S and need more runtime for your smartphone a new battery case has launched from OtterBox. The battery case is called the iPhone 4/4S Defender Series with iON Intelligence. We saw this device when it was a prototype back during CES in January.

The battery case is no longer a prototype and is now available to purchase. The case is designed to provide the impressive protection against drops that the OtterBox Defender series is famous for. It’s also designed to give you more runtime when you are away from an outlet.

OtterBox uses its three layer protection common with all of the Defender Series cases. The most interesting part of this case is its iON Intelligence capability that automates the power management process. Rather than continuously charging the phone, even if it’s fully charged already, the case knows when your phone needs more power. An interactive app goes along with the case and monitors the the amount of battery life remaining for both your phone and the case.

The case has 10 LED lights along the bottom edge to show you how much power is left in its internal battery. The case also comes with a micro USB cable designed to charge the case to allow you to sync the phone at the same time. OtterBox says that the case will charge your iPhone until it reaches 100% battery capacity or for up to two hours before it stops charging. The case will automatically begin charging again when the phone drops to a power level of 60%. The case is available right now for $129.95.

It can be very tricky to get information to and from Apple gadgets since Apple doesn’t include a memory card slot. On many of the Android devices on the market all you need do to get information off the smartphone or tablet or onto it is take out the memory card, slip it into your reader, and transfer it to or from your computer. You have to go through more steps to do that same thing for iPhones.

A new product has debuted from Apotop that is specifically designed to help iPhone and iPad users get data to and from their devices with ease. The product is called the DW09 and it is a palm-sized little device described as a Wi-Reader. It’s designed to enable wireless sharing and transferring of video, photographs, and other data between an iPad or iPhone and SD memory card for flash drives.

The DW09 supports up to three iOS devices at the same time allowing the simultaneous sharing and streaming of high-definition movies and other content. The device also allows the streaming of movies and other videos in file formats that iOS devices don’t support natively. The DW09 supports flash drives and self powered external hard drives up to 3 TB capacity.

It works with memory cards including SD, SDHC, and SDXC up to 128 GB in capacity using FAT32, NTFS, and exFAT formats. The device works in conjunction with a Wi-Reader app on the Apple device. The device is also designed to work as a travel size Wi-Fi hotspot supporting 802.11n wireless networks. TheDW09 can be purchased now online and an MSRP of $79.99.

Back in January during CES 2013, we spent a little bit of hands-on time with the Griffin Crayola Light Marker. This product looks like a Crayola branded marker that you or your kids might use to draw pictures. Anyone that has kids knows how messy marker artwork can get. The mess not only gets on anything lying on the table or desk around the artwork, but on your children’s skin as well.

The cool part about the Crayola Light Marker is that your kids don’t need any paper and the marker never dries out or makes a mess. As the name implies, it uses light to allow your kids to draw directly on the screen of your iPad. The marker works in conjunction with a special Crayola app that has a number of features and games for kids to enjoy.

The app features a Hide ‘N Seek game where kids use the markers a flashlight to shine around the scene looking for specific objects. One features that kids will definitely like is Free Draw where they can draw anything they want using various digital colors. The app also offers coloring pages with pre-drawn images kids can digitally color.

Other features of the app include Dot to Dot that lets pictures appear as the kids connect the dots. Splatter Paint is another activity in the app where kids can use the marker to pop balloons and splatter paint on the background. The activity app also includes also feature allowing kids to build little jigsaw puzzles. The Crayola Light Marker also comes with a tablet holder to prop the tablet up for play in the Marker gets power from a single AA battery. The Crayola Light Marker is available for purchase now for $29.99.

If you’re constantly losing things such as your keys, purse, wallet, or any other item, Scosche has a new wireless location device you might find interesting. The device is called the foundIT and the location device is designed with the keyring attachment allowing it to be attached to just about anything. The locator hardware is likely too bulky for attaching to your typical smartphone or tablet.

The small location sensors have a range of 100 feet. That means if you misplace your keys within your house, car, or office you be able to locate the missing items using a map and a little radar display inside the app. The sensor gets power from a small coin cell battery promising almost a year of use per battery.

The sensors are designed to pair with the iPhone 5, iPhone 4 S, iPad, or iPad mini using an application available as a free download on the App Store. The app does require devices to be running iOS 5.1 or higher. The foundIT package includes two of the sensors for $49.95.

Once the sensor is paired with the application running on your Apple gadget, you can receive audible and vibration alerts if your items are out of range. That means if you’re at the airport and you set your bag down and walk away, if the bag has a sensor attached your smartphone will vibrate and remind you to go back and pick up your bag. It appears that the hardware is approximately the size of a remote control for a keyless entry system of a car.

We’ve seen plenty of remote control toys that are controlled by the iPhone or other smartphones over the years. Typically, these are cars or even helicopters that are already built as soon as you pull them out of the box. iHelicopters has a couple new iPhone controlled remote control cars that are made from little Lego-style bricks.

That means you actually have to build the car yourself before you can drive it around using your iPhone. It also means that you don’t necessarily have to build the cars you see in the photographs, you can build anything your imagination can dream up with the pieces you have. The bricks used in these little remote control vehicles are a generic sort.

The retailer does say that the bricks used in the vehicles are compatible with nanoblocks. The controller application is available as a free download from the App Store and supports the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. The vehicle offers a range of controls including left/right and forward/back.

The controller has a range of 20 to 30 m and it takes 60 minutes charge the transmitter. The system also needs about 20 minutes to charge the brick car itself. The transmitter lasts for 120 minutes per charge while the battery inside the brick car is good for about 10 minutes of play per charge. Check out the video below to see the brick vehicles in action.

We have talked about the interesting little Breathometer a couple times in the past. This device is the world’s first smartphone breathalyzer. The idea is that when people go out to eat and drink with their friends, they can take the Breathometer with them and use it to determine if they’ve had too much to drink.

The last time we talked about the little device it had raised a little bit over $80,000 and had another 18 days to go. The campaign now has only 48 hours left and will fund on Saturday, 13 April. So far, the project has raised $131,011. That means it raised enough money to get one of the stretch goals added to encourage additional pledges.

At $100,000, the people behind the Breathometer project promised to add what they call a safety net. That safety net creates a one-click calling feature for friends and local taxi services. I can see that being useful if someone is too intoxicated to work the numbers on their smartphone.

With a couple days left in the program, there is a chance he could reach the $150,000 level, which will add four additional colors to the mix. At $200,000, the developers of the project promised to add a feature to help stop drunk texting. You can still pledge $100 and get your own Breathometer by July 2013. If you’re in no hurry, a pledge of $20 will get you one devices by January 2014. The project was originally seeking $25,000.

If you’re into sports activities of some sort and you like to record your activity using a video camera or smartphone, there are number of cases on the market to allow you to use your iPhone 5. The problem with using your iPhone 5 as a camera for recording action sports is that the camera in the iPhone 5 has a rather narrow field of view. That means you miss out on some of the image because of the narrow field of view the iPhone offers by default.

A new case for the iPhone 5 is now shipping called the Hitcase Pro for iPhone 5. A version of the case is also available for the iPhone 4 and 4S. The case is waterproof and designed to be mountable on a variety of surfaces. The idea is to turn your iPhone 5 into a rugged and waterproof point of view camera.

The iPhone case promises to keep your phone safe from water and allow it to work at up to 33 feet underwater. One of the big features of the case for iPhone users is that it has a special lens attachment that gives the iPhone 5 camera a much wider field of view. The lens allows for a 170-degree overview and promises to allow you to take sharper and better saturated photos and videos.

The case is intended to work in conjunction with the updated Vidometer 2.0 app allowing you to overlay speed, altitude, and G force data on top of videos and upload the videos to Facebook or YouTube. The case is made from ABS/polycarbonate with a soft touch rubberized exterior. Inside the case is a layer of a material called Poron that is designed to absorb shocks that would typically be transmitted to the phone. The material promises to absorb vibrations without letting them affect the phone that would be present in high vibration environments like motocross or automotive racing. The case ships with GoPro compatible mounting system for helmets and other uses. The case is available now for $129.99.

If you have a LG Nexus 4 smartphone and you want to keep the screen looking as good as the day you bought it, Xgear is now shipping a new screen protector for your device. The screen protector is called the Fantom 4 and it’s not some self-adhesive piece of plastic. The screen protector is a thin sheet of tempered glass.

The glass screen protector itself is made from hardened glass that resists scratching and helps keep the screen free of fingerprints and other particles. The Fantom 4 is also shatterproof and designed to protect the screen of your device from scratches, cuts, and drops. The way the screen protector is applied to the phone, there is no way to have air bubbles underneath and the projector can be repositioned when needed.

The Fantom 4 is thin at only 0.4 mm thick and has a surface hardness of 8H. The edges of the screen protector are also beveled to prevent them from getting chipped or scratched. The beveled edges also make it less likely that the screen protector will get caught on things such as your pocket.

While the Fantom 4 will protect the screen of your smartphone, the manufacturer recommends it be used in conjunction with a case. The edges of the screen protector are still vulnerable to drops. The screen protector is available in black for $34.99 with a white version available later.

We talked about the Breathometer when the device first hit indiegogo a couple weeks ago. The Breathometer is a hardware device that works in conjunction with an application on the iPhone turning the device into a portable breathalyzer. The idea is that when people go out drinking with their friends they could use the portable breathalyzer to see when they’ve had too much to drink.

Originally, the campaign was seeking $25,000 in funding. The project has obliterated that funding goal raising over three times that amount of money. At the time of writing, the Breathometer has raised $80,291 and still has 18 days left to go in the campaign. You can pledge $100 to get the Breathometer in July 2013.

If you don’t mind waiting until January of next year, you can pick one of these little breathalyzers up for only $20. To help entice people to keep pledging their money, the people behind the campaign have announced some new stretch goals. If the campaign reaches $100,000, the developers will create a one-click calling application for friends and local taxicabs.

If the campaign reaches $150,000 in funding, the company will add four additional colors for the device to choose from. Possibly the best stretch goal will be activated if the campaign reaches $200,000. At that point, the company will create a portion of the application that can stop drunk texting when you’re over the legal limit. Keeping you from driving drunk and preventing you from drunk texting your ex is a public service indeed.

The first time we talked about the Trygger Clip for the iPhone 5 was in December of 2012. At that time, the product had landed on Kickstarter seeking the funds to go into production. The Trygger raised the money needed and moved onto the next step of its process before coming to the iPhone hoards.

The company behind the product, called Trygger as well, has announced that the Trygger for the iPhone 4/5 is now available for purchase. The Trygger is available in black or white colors for $49.99 for the iPhone 4 or $39.99 for the iPhone 5. The device slips on the corner of your iPhone 5 putting a special filter over the iPhone 5 camera lens.

The product is designed to improve photographs taken using the smartphone. The Trygger polarizing filter is produced using hand ground optical quality glass and the filter is adjustable. The manufacturer promises that the device will remove unwanted reflections from glass, water, and metal.

The filter is adjustable allowing the user to determine how much light comes through giving more control over photographs. The product is also available for the iPhone 4 in the form of the case that snaps around the smartphone placing the same lens filter element over the iPhone 5 camera lens.

If you’re heavy user of the Apple iPad looking to extend the battery life of your device a company called Digital Treasures has unveiled some new cases that have integrated batteries just for Apple tablets. The series of cases is called the Props Power Case. The company offers cases to fit just about every iPad Apple makes.

There are versions of the Props Power Case for the iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2, and the iPad mini. The company offers two different styles of cases that hide a battery on the inside. One version of the case has a 12,000 mAh internal battery while the other has an 8000 mAh internal battery. The version of the case for the iPad mini is only available in the smaller battery capacity.

Each of the cases has an LED battery status indicator on the top to show how much power is left inside the battery before it needs charged. The cases also ship with a charging cable and a USB adapter cable that can power the iPad or charge your smartphone on the go. The case promises not only more battery-power and runtime for your tablet, it will also protect the device from scratches and drops on the go.

The case has an anti-slide design allowing you to prop the iPad up comfortable viewing. The 12,000 mAh battery case sells for $19.95 and the 8000 mAh case sells for $89.95. The version of the case for the iPad mini sells for $79.95 and all are available now.

Samsung’s big Galaxy S4 reveal is almost upon us, but that hasn’t stopped the steady drip of leaks which today includes a new set of cases for the flagship smartphone. The colorful covers, 98-percent trusted” from UK retailer MobileFun‘s source, are unbranded, but they do fit in with what leaks we’ve seen in the past week or so about the expected form-factor for the new handset.

Whereas earlier indications pointed to a squared-off S4, stepping back to the aesthetic of the Galaxy S II in some ways, and away from the rounded edges of the Galaxy Note II, these shells – along with the latest batch of chatter – hint that won’t be the case. Instead, we’ve seen Samsung itself tease with a snippet of the Galaxy S4′s curvaceous shoulder, while more unofficial rumor-mill-grist have shown a phone that looks strikingly similar to Samsung’s existing range, plastic case and all.

This new lot doesn’t stray too far from any of that, and in fact – though we’re expecting a bigger display, up to 5-inches from the 4.7-inch Galaxy S III – the general aesthetic is almost identical. The speaker and LED flash do seem to have shifted somewhat, though, with the flash now underneath the camera lens (believed to be a 13-megapixel shooter) and the speaker down near the bottom edge.

We’ll have to wait and see as to whether these accessories are legitimate or not, but there isn’t long to go before we know for sure. Samsung’s event kicks off at 7pm ET in New York City on Thursday, and SlashGear will be there to bring you all the news as it happens.

Sigma is a manufacturer of lenses for a variety of cameras that are on the market today. In late January, Sigma unveiled several new lenses in the company’s Art line. When the company announced those new lenses in January, it didn’t offer pricing or availability details. Those details are now available.

The company says that its updated 30 mm F1.4 DC HSM lens will be available in late March for $499 for cameras using Sigma, Canon, and Nikon mounts. The company’s 30 mm F2.8 DN and 19 mm F2.ADN lenses will both be available for Micro Four Thirds and Sony E-Mount camera systems in late March for $199.

Sigma says that the 19 mm F2.8 DN lens is a wide-angle offering equivalent to 38 mm on the Micro Four Thirds system and 28.5 mm on the E-mount system. The minimum focusing distance for the lens is 7.9-inches. The 30 mm F2.8 DN lens has an angle of view equivalent to 60 mm for Micro Four Thirds cameras and 45 mm on e-mount cameras. It features a minimum focusing distance of 11.8-inches.

The 30 mm F1.4 DC HSM lens uses a new optical configuration of eight elements in nine groups with rounded aperture blades. The angle of view is equivalent to 45 mm on a 35mm camera and the focusing distance is 11.8-inches. The lens is designed to minimize field curvature and prevent loss of image quality at the edges of photographs. It uses a double-aspheric lens to minimize distortion.

If you use an iPhone 5 in an area where it’s difficult to get a Wi-Fi signal, a company called Absolute Technology has an interesting case specifically for the iPhone. The case is called the Linkase for iPhone 5 and promises to enhance your Wi-Fi signal using an external antenna. The case is available in five different colors.

Those five colors include black, gray, white, red, and blue. The case is made from with shock absorbent rubber sides and features are raised bevel on the front to help protect screen. The flexible sides make installation easy and the back of the case features an interchangeable EMW element.

The manufacturer uses a non-slip leather coating on the back of the case and the back is made using a durable polycarbonate for additional protection. The case measures 126.7 mm long by 9.97 mm thick by 61.4 mm wide and weighs 18 g. The slide out EMW element is also interchangeable.

The interchangeable design of that component allows users to buy additional colors to customize the look of the case. The manufacturer of the case claims that it uses a wireless energy transfer system when that EMW element is extended to increase your Wi-Fi signal strength up to 50%. Pricing and availability are unknown at this time.

Back during CES, we mentioned that PowerSkin was working on a number of external battery cases for the Apple iPhone line. Not too long ago we talked about the company’s PoP’n case that sticks to the back of the iPhone 5. If you didn’t like the idea of a battery hanging off the back of your smartphone, you may prefer the PowerSkin case that is now available.

This is the classic PowerSkin case made in a form factor specifically for the iPhone 5. The case will protect the iPhone 5 from scratches and drops thanks to a one-piece silicone case design that wraps all the way around the iPhone. The internal battery has 1500 mAh of power.

PowerSkin promises that the case will extend talk time up to 6.5 hours, extend Wi-Fi usage up to eight hours, and expand standby time up to 182 hours. The case measures 2.5 x .65 x 5.1-inches and weighs 0.18 pounds. That means the case shouldn’t add significantly to the weight or bulk of the iPhone in your pocket.

The battery inside the case will begin to charge the iPhone 5 at the press of a button. The case also ships with an earphone extender for the Apple headphones included with the iPhone 5 and any other 3.5 mm headphones. The case is available and shipping right now for $79.99.

Quan is a company that performs a lot of research, development, and experimentation in the robotics industry. Robots aren’t all the company works on though and Quan has announced that its all-in-one iPad accessory has entered the engineering phase. Previously, the project was in the conceptual phase and the changing phase marks a transition from the drawing board to the workshop.

Quan says that this week its engineering department began producing a working prototype of the device for testing. The all-in-one iPad accessory sounds like a device that iPad users will welcome. The company promises that the accessory will give the iPad features of a high-end laptop.

The accessory promises to add peripheral ports, the ability to connect to storage devices, an extended battery pack, speakers, keyboard, and more. All of those accessories will be packed in a single stylish and protective case. Presumably, the accessory will include USB ports for connecting other devices.

Quan notes that it has contacted manufacturers in China about initiating production of the accessory as soon as a prototype is produced. The company says that the prototype has to meet internal performance targets before being shipped to manufacturing. That means there is no indication of when we might see the all-in-one iPad accessory on the market.

If you’re an avid photographer or videographer using anything from a traditional camcorder to a sports camera such as a GoPro, SteadyWheel is something that might interest you. This large circular device appears to be approximately the size of a small steering wheel. The device is made from ABS plastic with small weights embedded around the rim.

The device is designed to be a portable camera stabilizer meant to reduce shaking and improve stability when recording. The device is designed to work with smartphones, point-and-shoot cameras, still cameras, and just about anything else. Any camera that uses a standard 1/4-20 tripod mount can be secured inside of the wheel.

The device has no moving parts and is resistant to salt water making it usable for water sports. The SteadyWheel weighs 1.6 pounds and is 11 1/2 inches in diameter. Looking at the device, the diameter of the wheel makes it seem as though it would be very difficult to use in some settings. I can’t see the device being usable by a person who’s actually riding a motorcycle or driving a car for instance.

A pledge of $50 or more will get you one of the SteadyWheels during the early bird special. So far, the project has 200 backers and has raised $10,532 at the time of writing with 17 days to go. The project is seeking $27,000.

For many people who purchase the iPhone 5, the design of the phone is one of the biggest reasons they purchase. Apple is famous for its minimalistic industrial designs and the iPhone 5 is an attractive device for sure. That means that many owners don’t want a case to completely enclose the smartphone, they want to be able to see the design of the device they paid so much money for.

For many of these people they end up using bumpers that only wrap around the edges of the iPhone to provide additional protection from drops. XGear has a new bumper for the iPhone 5 called the Fortress 2. This bumper is made from aluminum and features a built-in bottle opener. The bumper is machined from a solid block of aluminum.

The case features a sliding bottom making it easy to dock the iPhone 5 for charging. The bumper promises no interference with the internal antenna and leaves ports and buttons accessible. The case ships with a pair of aluminum home buttons.

One of those home buttons is silver and the other is black. The Fortress 2 will work with the iPhone 5 on AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. There are a number of colors available including natural aluminum, dark blue, light blue, matte black, pink, purple, and red. The case sells for $99.99 and users can also add the XGear Banshee tempered glass screen protector for an additional $10.

Last summer we talked a couple times about a new charging device for the iPhone 4 and Android devices using a micro USB port. The device is called the ChargeCard and is a little credit card-size device designed to slip into your wallet so you always have a charger with you for your smartphone. Two versions of this device are now shipping globally.

The company is now shipping the ChargeCard for the iPhone 4 for $25. The micro USB version is also shipping for $25. However, it has already sold enough that it’s backordered until the middle of March. Shipping for the iPhone 4 version is delayed for one week.

On one side of the ChargeCard is the connector for plugging into your smartphone. In the middle of the ChargeCard is a rubber tongue that flexes that has a standard USB plug for power and sync built-in. The USB plug snaps into place in the center of the card allowing you to slip the device in and out of your wallet with ease.

If you use the iPhone 5 or the iPad mini that has the new Lightning connector, ChargeCard also has a new version of the device that is designed specifically for you. The iPhone 5 version of the device is up for pre-order right now with shipping expected to start in the middle of May. The iPhone 5 version will also sell for $25.

We have seen our share of bizarre cases for the iPhone 5 and other devices over the years. There are a few companies out there that make incredibly expensive and high-end cases that enclose smartphones in precious metals and jewels. A company called Brikk has unveiled what may be the most expensive iPhone 5 cases ever produced.

The company makes a case called the Haven that comes in four different versions. The design of all the cases is the same and all completely wrap around the sides of the iPhone 5 leaving the screen and back exposed. The big draw here isn’t the design of the case, but what the case is made from.

The case comes in a version made from precious metal in one of three colors. The case can be had in yellow gold, pink gold, or a version made from platinum. As you can imagine with a smartphone case made completely from a precious metal, pricing is incredibly expensive.

Prices for the case depend on the metal chosen and range from $11,610 up to $14,235. A portion of the money made from selling the case goes to help fight world hunger with each case sold funding one metric ton of rice. Each of the cases is made from over 75 g of gold and the platinum model is made from over 100 g of platinum. The company also offers customized versions encrusted with diamonds or other precious stones.

This week Acer is bringing the heat with a cool new projector that works with several new-age technologies that make 3D media a reality for your own home environment. With the Acer H6510BD Projector you’ll be supported with Blu-ray 3D, DLP 3D, and NVIDIA 3DTV Play technologies to back you up. At Full HD 1080p resolution with a massive beast of a brightness at 3000 ANSI lumens, you’ll have the Tuesday Movies Night of your life!

This projector is able to bring on a fabulous 10,000:1 DynamicBlack contrast ratio for the most crisp execution of graphics you’ve ever seen. You’ll find that you’re projecting at a rather green speed as well with ExtremeEco mode. Acer says that this mode allows you “up to 70 percent” power savings and will extend the life of your device’s lamp “up to 7000 hours.” That’s quite significant, needless to say.

So you’ll be using this device not just to watch movies projected from – for example – your laptop. With a compact size – 10.4 x 8.7 x 1.3-inches and a weight at just 4.8 pounds, you’ll be able to bring it along in your backpack wherever you please. Of course you could also hook it up to your gaming PC and project to a massive wall in your basement for 3D gaming galore – can you imagine a next-generation title like Destiny rocking out at 1080p and in 3D on your wall next year?

With this projector’s 2D-to-3D conversion technology, you’ll be able to, as Acer says, “[convert] into 3D any 2D picture or video signal that passes through the HDMI port.” We’ll see how this tech actually stands up when it’s available for demo rather soon. Until then, you’ll also want to know that you’ve got Analog RGB/component video (D-Sub) for input along with component (three RCA), S-Video (mini DIN), and Composite video (RCA), as well as HDMI (video, audio, HDCP) x 2. This is all joined by regular PC audio via a stereo mini jack.

You’ll be able to buy this Acer H6510BD Projector immediately if not soon for a cool $799 USD MSRP. This price includes a limited one-year warranty and is sure to be irresistible to those of you out there with an itch for 3D on a massive scale. Let us know if you’re planning to dive in!

It seems like every time we turn around there is some sort of wearable device that is designed to interface with various smartphones. A new wearable smartphone notification device has hit Kickstarter called the Embrace+. The project designers described the system as a fashion accessory with true functionality.

The Embrace+ works in conjunction with an app that runs on your smartphone allowing you to set custom colors that the bracelet will glow to tell you just about anything your smartphone is doing. You can set custom color notifications for incoming calls from specific users such as your significant other, boss, friend, a specific color for a group, or for unknown callers.

The bracelet can also be set for notifications about text messages, e-mails, Facebook posts, alarms and timers, low phone battery, phone out of range warning, calendar alerts, and lots more. The application that runs the bracelet is available for the iPhone and Android devices. The app is also designed to be easy to skin for customization.

The bracelet user can set custom colors for notifications or custom colors and custom blinks as well as vibration feedback. The application has a color wheel that allows you to choose just about any color you can think of. The bracelet will be available in three shapes named after gemstones including Topaz, Beryl, and Opal. The bracelet is available in three different sizes and promises 10 days of use with approximately 100 notifications per day per charge. The device charges via a USB port and a full charge takes only 10 minutes. The bracelet is waterproof and connects to the phone using Bluetooth. Kickstarter backers can get their hands on one bracelets for $39 with shipping expected in June.

Samsung is apparently making a renewed push into wireless charging, with a new Qi-compatible charging accessory spotted clearing the FCC and potentially tipping native support in the upcoming Galaxy S4. The Samsung Wireless Charging Pad, as the user manual included in the filing names it, offers a simple, straightforward way to rejuice a mobile device, with an off-white plate holding a single phone on your desk.

The FCC tested the accessory with a Verizon Galaxy S III (SCH-I535) equipped with an official Qi-compatible battery cover. Wireless power support was one of the launch-day features of the Galaxy S III, albeit with a separate charging station and back plate, but Samsung has yet to capitalize on those plans.

Interestingly, Samsung doesn’t appear too bothered about confidentiality at this stage. According to the company’s cover letter to the FCC, the only aspects of the EAD-W10EWE pad that need to be kept secret are the block diagram, operational description, schematics, and part list. Everything else – including the terse user guide, which basically amounts to “plug it in and put your phone on it” is left open.

When, then, Samsung might decide to officially launch the charging pad is unclear, though with Mobile World Congress at the end of the month, that seems a strong possibility. Whether it also means that the much-rumored Galaxy S4 will also come set up for wireless charging out of the box remains to be seen, but the feature was one of the few absences from the Galaxy S III’s native capabilities, something that is likely to leave it high on the agenda for inclusion this time around.

Samsung has quietly discontinued its keyboard dock accessories for three of its more popular recent tablets, potentially frustrating would-be owners with a more cumbersome separate stand and keyboard combo. The keyboard dock for the Galaxy Note 10.1, the Galaxy Tab 10, and the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, has been axed, Samsung has confirmed with UK retailer Clove, with unspecified “supply issues” impairing deliveries from November 2012.

According to the retailer, Samsung’s intention is to replace the single keyboard dock – which has an integrated nook into which the Galaxy Tab slots – with an accessory double-act. A tablet stand, complete with dock connector for recharging the tablet, would form one half of that combo, while a Bluetooth keyboard – still yet to be fully detailed – would be used for text entry.

The audience for keyboards to go with tablets is arguably small, though various Kickstarter projects and third-party manufacturers have waded in to design the “perfect” accompaniment to a tablet (usually Apple’s iPad). Only last week, Logitech and Belkin each outed an $80 add-on ‘board for the iPad mini, for instance.

One argument for separate peripherals might be that it introduces ergonomic flexibility. By splitting the dock and the keyboard, it allows users to move the tablet further away and perhaps raise it closer to the eye-line.

Still, as Clove counters, two accessories make for less convenient mobile computing, though it’s worth noting that Samsung’s original keyboard dock lacked the snap-cover convenience of iPad counterparts from companies like Logitech. No pricing information for the new Samsung Bluetooth keyboard has been revealed, though Clove warns that the separate dock and ‘board combo will be “a higher cost” than the old-style add-on.

If you own an iPad mini and are interested in a keyboard sized exactly for the miniature tablet, Logitech has a new offering you might be interested in. The tablet is called the Ultrathin Keyboard mini and is up for pre-order right now for $79.99. It’s not clear when exactly the tablet will ship.

The tablet has a familiar QWERTY layout along with a number of keys to control media and other functions on the tablet. The shortcut keys built into the keyboard are for common tasks such as copy, paste, and others. The keys are large considering the keyboard size and have a chicklet design.

The keyboard is also designed to hold your iPad mini screen up at an angle for comfortable typing. Logitech also integrates powerful magnets into the top edge of the keyboard allowing it to attach securely to the iPad mini for transportation. The keyboard also has rubber feet around the edges to prevent the keys from scratching the screen of your tablet.

The keyboard is designed to automatically wake the iPad mini open the cover, and to automatically put the tablet into sleep mode when you close the cover. The keyboard connects to the tablet using Bluetooth and promises a battery life of up to three months. The keyboard is available in black, white, and red. The red version is only available in select countries.

In a lot of states, Bluetooth headsets are a requirement if you’re car lacks integrated Bluetooth to be able to have phone calls while driving. For a lot of people, what they want is a very small Bluetooth headset that hangs off the ear. However, as many drivers have discovered wearing some of those Bluetooth headsets for a lot of hours a day can get very uncomfortable. Plantronics has a new Bluetooth headset that it has just announced called the Blacktop 500 built with comfort in mind.

The headset looks like something that a person working in an office who talks on the phone all day might wear. It’s much larger than your typical Bluetooth headset, but it promises much better comfort. The headset is designed for commercial drivers and truckers, but anyone who doesn’t mind larger size can benefit from its features. The headset features a smart sensor that recognizes when the driver is wearing it and automatically transfers calls and music from an iPod to the headset.

The Blacktop 500 also has an in vehicle charging system that allows for unlimited talk time while driving. The headset also has a USB port allowing it to be used with a laptop for VoIP calls and more. Other features of the headset include built-in wind and noise canceling technology for the microphone. The headset can automatically answer phone calls and it has a cable with all the controls that can be clipped to a pocket or shirt.

The earpiece is heavily cushioned for all-day comfort and the device uses Bluetooth 3.0 + A2DP for audio streaming. The headset can connect to two different Bluetooth devices at one time. When on battery power, the headset offers 10 hours of talk time and up to 10 days of standby. The Blacktop 500 is available now for $129.99.

Children love technology, especially tablets such as the iPad. The huge number of educational and entertainment apps available for kids on the Apple iPad means that parents can give their kids an early start on learning all sorts of important information while the kid thinks they’re playing games. The problem for parents is that children are notoriously hard on gadgets meaning some sort of secure iPad holder is often a requirement.

A new iPad holder called the iStroll Kid has turned up on Kickstarter seeking the funding to enter production. The iPad holder is specifically designed to attach to a child’s stroller and securely hold the iPad while keeping it within the child’s reach. The holder has a section that is designed to hold the iPad like any other iPad accessory.

That iPad holder is attached to a frame that clamps onto the tubing of the stroller. While some parents might like this simply to allow their children to play educational games or watch video while shopping or doing other things, this iPad holder can also be incredibly important to parents of special-needs children. A number of special-needs children take advantage of tablets like the iPad as their sole means of communication with parents.

The project is very new on Kickstarter and is seeking $10,000 enter production. The project has 41 days to go and at the time of writing has raised $88. The project will fund on March 13 if it hits its funding goal. A pledge of $35 or more will get you the iStroll Kid iPad holder and the designer expects to sell it for $49.99 when it goes into production. The estimated ship date for the product is March of 2013.

There are a number of smartwatches on the market that promise to interface with smartphones and perform various other tasks. A company called Starfish Technologies is set to unveil a new smart watch specifically designed for the iPhone, iPad, and Android user at MacWorld kicking off tomorrow. The watch is called the Starfish.

The company isn’t offering up a lot of detail on hardware ahead of the official unveil during the MacWorld conference. What we do know is that the company is promising the world’s first truly interactive iPhone and Android compatible smartwatch. The company claims that the watch is the result of patent pending technology that allows it to communicate with the iPhone, iPad, or Android devices.

The watch promises interactive features and feedback that are unavailable in any other smartwatch. It appears that the majority of interactivity with the watch has to do with mirroring alerts and other information from the screen of your smartphone or other device. The watch will offer updates and alerts for incoming calls, text messages, e-mail, reminders, whether, breaking news, and stock market updates.

The Starfish watch also promises to allow you to answer calls, open text messages and e-mails, and access your music library. It will also run GPS or any other apps and has an integrated compass and G sensor. Those sensors allow the watch to gather information during workouts. The watch promises to last 24 hours per charge and there will be an SDK and API allowing users to create apps for the watch. The Starfish Smartwatch will sell for $169.

HTC doesn’t have a smartwatch like the Pebble, but it does have the HTC Mini, an NFC-equipped remote control and handset accessory which will be exclusively offered in China alongside the HTC Butterfly. The svelte handset – resembling an old candybar-style dumbphone – hooks up via Bluetooth to your Butterfly, so HTC suggests, and can be used for making calls without pulling the smartphone out of your pocket, as well as other things.

NFC is used to pair the HTC Mini with the Butterfly – aka the non-US version of the DROID DNA - after which point it works as a remote terminal. In addition to calls, it can show messages on its monochrome display, calendar entries, and call logs.

However, it will also apparently work as a remote control, useful when the Butterfly is plugged in to your TV and used as a media device. Then, the Mini can navigate through menus when the Butterfly is tethered near to the screen via HDMI; it also looks like it can be used to trigger the shutter in the camera app.

Finally, there’s a handy “find my phone” feature which makes the Butterfly ring when you’ve put it down somewhere and can’t locate it. No word on how much the HTC Mini might cost, though we’re hoping the company releases it as an accessory in markets other than China.
