Review: Acer Aspire R 13 laptop — an oddly hinged beauty

Despite what some may say, not every new laptop is unique. Sure, the configurations may differ. Nitpick enough and you’ll find ways in which one laptop is distinguished from another. Users have certain expectations, however, about what a laptop is: it is a display hinged at the bottom to a base that holds the computer’s guts, keyboard, and ports. It is that expectation that makes Acer’s Aspire R 13 model so unique.

ASUS outs Transformer Book T100HA, Flip TP200SA convertibles

In less than a month, Microsoft might have a new Surface Pro 4 to wow consumers hoping to get their hands on some fancy new 2-in-1 device. But it is unlikely everyone will be able to afford Microsoft's usually high end tablets. For those on a tighter budget but still need productivity in an even more portable form, ASUS is putting out the Transformer Book T100HA and Transformer Book Flip FP200SA, the latest members of its growing line of tablet/laptop hybrids trying to corner the mid-range Windows market.

Kurio Smart is a 2-in-1 Windows tablet designed for kids

Tablets and smartphones for kids aren't exactly new and we've already seen quite a number of them trying to appeal to both parents and kids for patronage. Rare, however, if not non-existent, is a tablet for kids that touts a full Windows installation as well as a 2-in-1 detachable keyboard form factor, two things that are mostly presumed to be for adults only. But that is exactly what KD Interactive's new Kurio Smart is offering kids these days. Plus, a new Kurio Xtreme 2 tablet is also launched for those who prefer Android's flavor.

Three things to know about Lenovo’s LaVie Z laptop

Lenovo recently introduced its newest LaVie laptop, the LaVie Z. The LaVie Z is an ultrabook able to meet everyday and most business needs, but with one big perk: it is super lightweight, likely lighter than any laptop you've ever held. Review: Lenovo LaVie Z — an insanely lightweight laptop

Lenovo has many laptops, so much so that trying to choose the perfect one for your needs may be a little frustrating. We've seen heavy gaming laptops from the company, svelte workstations, powerful business laptops, and more than a few ultrabooks. Not a single one of them offered such a surprising first impression as the maker's insanely lightweight LaVie Z, an ultrabook that weighs so little it deserves a category all of its own.

Windows RT finally gets its Windows 10 Start Menu

This is it! The Windows RT update you have been waiting for. Or not. It is probably a bittertsweet, maybe more bitter than sweet, moment for the few Windows RT users out there on a Surface RT or Surface 2 tablet. The promised update to the OS is finally here, bringing along with it some of the update design of Windows 10, particularly the Start Menu. However, it is also formally the last major update it will receive, the long overdue proverbial nail on Windows RT's coffin.

Comixology Windows 8 app getting axed end of the year

Just when Microsoft is, somewhat desperately, trying to push software developers to make universal Windows apps that run on any device form factor, Comixology is going in the totally opposite direction. It has rather silently updated its FAQ with a page answering "Where is the Windows 8 app?". It's still there, don't worry, but only until the end of the year. The world's biggest and most popular digital comics distributor is retiring its native Windows 8 app in favor of, what else, a "great web experience".
