Sony A7 II boasts 5-axis in-body stabilization

Sony has announced a new mirrorless camera, for now only in Japan, that will succeed its already impressive A7 camera from late 2013. This aptly named A7 II carries on many of the features of its predecessor, including the full-frame sensor and the hybrid auto focus. What's different here really, is the image stabilization technology. According to Sony, the A7 II has the worlds first optical 5-axis in-body shake correction mechanism that will further give confidence to photographers, letting them take steady shots even without a tripod.

Sony’s new stacked CMOS sensor for smartphones: HDR everywhere

Sony’s new stacked CMOS sensor for smartphones: HDR everywhere

Today, Sony is unveiling a new stacked sensor that could greatly improve smartphone photography as we know it. The stacked CMOS sensor from Sony is the latest in a long line of mobile photography improvements from Sony, and will likely make its place on their incoming Xperia Z4 handset. Though it has the same pixel count as the Xperia Z3’s EXMOR sensor, this new hardware makes better use of those pixels. The stacked sensor isn’t new, but it’s the first time Sony is bringing it to a mobile platform.

Xperia Z4 details spill: Evolution, not Revolution

Sony's next smartphone may well be the first to leak its parts this season as we prepare for the whole 2015 batch. What we're seeing here is said to be the Sony Xperia Z4, the next in a line of devices that look so extremely similar, you'd be forgiven for mistaking one for any one of the others. This device is tipped to be working with a front panel here so similar to its predecessor that it's even more difficult to tell them apart than the last two.

Sony IMX230 brings mirrorless camera features to phones

Sony has just announced a new EXMOR RS sensor and it is poised to take smartphone photography to the next level. Although the new IMX230 has almost the same effective 21 megapixel count as the camera found on, say, the Xperia Z3, this new sensor uses a stacked design that allows it to cram high-end camera functionality in a 1/2.4 size CMOS sensor. Such functionality include an image plane phase detection autofocus system and HDR imaging not just for videos but for still photos as well.

Should you give Ubisoft a break on Assassin’s Creed Unity?

Should you give Ubisoft a break on Assassin’s Creed Unity?

This week is not a great one for Ubisoft. They've been hit relatively hard for their slightly lackluster release of Assassin's Creed: Unity, with reviewers finding the game less than perfect in some cases and downright unplayable in others. But what if Ubisoft had waited? What if they delayed again - past the two weeks delay they'd noted back in August? At what point does it make sense to release a product that's unfinished? At what point does a development team have to stop and release?
