Consumer Reports says Galaxy S5 better than Galaxy S6 (yes, really)

Our Android readers are probably facing a bit of a dilemma. Should you buy the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, HTC One M9, or LG G4? All very nice flagships, and all have their merits. For some, like HTC One owners, upgrading to the One M9 might not be worth it — HTC just didn’t change enough. Samsung fans are giddy, though. The new Galaxy S flagships are downright amazing. Consumer Reports doesn’t agree. For them, the Galaxy S5 is actually the better pick when compared to the Galaxy S6.

This is probably why Samsung will be introducing a new model for its Active line, soon to be dubbed the Galaxy S6 Active. The first images of the device have been leaked, giving us an early look at the front and back of weather-resistant smartphone.

We all had a really good idea Samsung’s next smartwatch would be round, but the release of their SDK confirms as much. From the SDK, we know Samsung is planning to support a 1.65-inch circular display at 320 x 320 resolution, with a pixel density of 305 ppi. That makes it the most visually brilliant Samsung smartwatch so far.

Samsung ARTIK wants to wire the IoT (& solve drought)

Samsung has launched a new range of chipsets intended to get your home appliances online and talking to each other, borrowing smartphone chip tech for its new ARTIK range. The trio of tiny boards - as small as 12 x 12 mm - connect via Bluetooth, WiFi, or ZigBee, model depending, with Samsung hoping they find their way into everything from connected toasters and fridges to future wearables. Meanwhile, since having your coffee pot hacked is probably considered unwelcome, ARTIK has baked-in hardware encryption.

After months of somewhat keeping silent, while letting its partners do the talking, Qualcomm is finally speaking out on the issues that have plagued what would have been its star chip for 2015, the Snapdragon 810. Naturally, it's calling the rumors of the chip overheating as hogwash and based on incomplete data. Of course, it's pointing the finger at "someone" who has been spreading this rumor to its advantage, without specifically mentioning the one company that stands to profit from the Snapdragon 810's failure: Samsung.
