Project Natal “about all living room experiences”: tailors content based on physical response

Microsoft's plans to use Project Natal for more than just Xbox 360 gaming were clear from the start; Bill Gates spared little time before confirming that the Windows team was already eyeing up the motion-tracking hardware for their own purposes.  Its taken a while, however, before they've told us exactly how else Natal might integrate with our lives outside of game-play.  According to Marc Whitten, general manager of the Xbox 360 team at Microsoft, Project Natal is "about all living room experiences," down to tracking your favorite sports teams based on what jersey you're wearing or which referee decisions you're boo'ing.

Microsoft Zune HD2 Seen at Microsoft Experience?

Microsoft Zune HD2 Seen at Microsoft Experience?

At least we can say that this isn't the first time the Zune HD2 has been rumored about. Because, let's face it, if you've got something as thin as this, you'll need some kind of other story to support it. Luckily, we've got that in this situation. According to a report over at Zunited, apparently a director and blogger got a chance to see the new Zune HD, along with a few pieces of other Microsoft tech.

Nintendo 3DS Launching in October

Nintendo 3DS Launching in October

Right now, you should chalk this one up for what it is: an unconfirmed rumor. But, if UK industry sources are to be believed, then it looks like the newest mobile gaming console from Nintendo, the 3DS, will actually see store shelves months before originally believed. Although, we're still positive that it's going to launch in Japan first, so that means it could be some time next year before it sees shelves elsewhere.

Slim Xbox 360 bundle with Natal by end of year tips analyst

Slim Xbox 360 bundle with Natal by end of year tips analyst

That Microsoft are working on a slimmer Xbox 360 update doesn't seem all that surprising, given we've already seen leaked images of the mainboard along with the console itself, but Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachte reckons Microsoft will be doing more than just putting the console on a diet.  "At a minimum," he wrote in a recent research note, "we anticipate the introduction of a more feature-packed Xbox 360 as the standard SKU in late 2010 (likely with a 250GB hard drive) at the same $299 price point."  However he also reckons it's more probable that Microsoft will want to get Project Natal in there too.

PS Move and Project Natal are “great honor” to Nintendo

Nintendo have Microsoft closing in on one side with Project Natal and Sony on the other with PlayStation Move, but should they be worried?  Not at all, reckons Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto; he thinks the company should be too busy being flattered by the "great honor" of Wii inspiring the rival motion-control systems.  In fact, he describes Project Natal and Move as "intensified" versions of the Wiimote.

The rumors about Microsoft updating their video game console, the Xbox 360, have been floating about for a little over a year now, and many people out there think that it's about time the console of today be replaced with something of tomorrow. The Redmond-based company has said in the past, though, that with the upcoming Project Natal, there isn't any reason for them to replace the console. That's not stopping the rumors, though.

Project Natal tipped for October; response lag measured

A relative gush of Project Natal information today, with BBC presenter Jonathan Ross apparently tipping an October launch date for the motion-control gaming system, while MTV take on another timing issue by measuring the peripheral's lag.  Ross had been trying Natal at a Microsoft event this week, and proceeded to tweet "Natal on Xbox is impressive. Not quite there yet I think but they have until October and if they get it right... sky's the limit."
