There's little to be said about a gaming console when it's barely hit store shelves in the way of final judgement. With the device appearing for the first time tomorrow (it hits stores tomorrow), the PlayStation 4 (or PS4 for short) is appearing in shortened reviews across the web. What you'll find is a whole lot of agreement on the potential of the device - but not a whole lot of years-spanning verdicts on the device as a whole.

Though the PlayStation 4 wont work with DLNA and MP3 playback right out of the box, it's been confirmed this week by Sony that they'll certainly be looking at incorporating the features in the near future. Due to overwhelming response to the idea that neither DLNA or MP3 playback would be available on the gaming console, Sony seems to have turned a corner on their aim to have them work.

PlayStation 4 digital game sales expand beyond PSN

It would appear that the folks at Sony responsible for finding the best way to expand sales of their console and the games that are sold for the console therein have decided that keeping digital means of buying to themselves was no longer the best means of playing along with the public. Much like heavy-hitter PC game sales giant Steam, the PlayStation Network will now allow third-party sales of digital games and DLC from here on out. Games will be purchased through retailers of many kinds, then attached to the PlayStation Network for play on whatever device you've got running - PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and PlayStation 4 included.

Sony PS3 PlayStation Store update adds PayPal support

Sony has announced a funding related update for those using the PlayStation Store on a PS3. Moving forward users will be able to add funds to their Sony Entertainment Network wallet using PayPal. Or more specifically, from PayPal and directly through the PlayStation Store. You see, in the past you have been able to use funds using PayPal, however prior to this update -- that was done via the web interface.

Steam users eclipse Xbox Live, PSN still far and away tops

This afternoon the folks at Valve have let it be known that they're rolling in with a cool 65 million users total for the Steam gaming network. This number can be compared to the most recent report from Sony on the PlayStation Network working with 110 million users and Microsoft reporting that they're in at 48 million users in Xbox Live. These numbers are not the same as "active users", a number which is much more difficult to grasp.
