Pebble Time Steel revealed plus smartstrap sensor add-ons

It's only been a matter of weeks since Pebble showed us its new Time smartwatch, and already there's a second, metal-bodied version, the Pebble Time Steel. Echoing the second-gen original Pebble, which wrapped the guts of the first, plastic wearable in a more premium casing, Pebble Time Steel comes in stainless steel casing and has a larger battery than its cheaper sibling. Meanwhile, the Kickstarter success has also revealed exactly what it has in mind for "smartstraps" for the new Time and Time Steel watches.

Pebble and Windows phones: a tale of what could have been

Pebble and Windows phones: a tale of what could have been

Pebble's new stab at another Kickstarter, this time for the sleeker, more colorful Pebble Time, has renewed interest in one of the pioneers of smartwatches. While Pebble supports both Android and iOS, one of the few smartwatches to do so, it leaves out a portion of the mobile world out in the cold. Granted, the number of Windows Phone users might pale in comparison, but there are always some voices and arms raised in supplication for support. Though things looked hopeful for a while, the reality might be harsher.

Pebble Time: color smartwatch returns to Kickstarter

Pebble Time: color smartwatch returns to Kickstarter

That's right: the second-generation "Pebble Time" smartwatch will be launched on the same platform as its predecessor: Kickstarter. This unit is reminiscent of its predecessor, working with a subdued physical design and a newly updated Pebble OS software interface. Pebble Time, as it's called, will be available to backers of this Kickstarter by May of 2015 and will be delivered at a price point roughly double that of the original - unless you're talking about the original price - it's the same as the launch price of the original Pebble and that of the newer Pebble Steel.

Pebble Color edition: this is (likely) the new lineup

Details surrounding the rumored color display-toting Pebble have leaked this morning just hours before the final, official reveal by the company itself. This smartwatch is very similar to its predecessor, this time coming with a display that includes color. The physical appearance of this device is unlike its predecessor in that it rolls with a slightly more "sporty" feel - but the buttons are still there, and the strap still looks rather rubbery. The operating system inside may have quite a bit of a change-up.

Pebble now lets you interact via Android Wear notifications

Pebble now lets you interact via Android Wear notifications

With some slight variation, most smartwatches are essentially the same. The face shape and specs may change, but the overall interaction is equal, with notifications being the main reason people like them. One of the first smartwatches around, Pebble, has done a remarkable job staying relevant in the face of flashier options from Motorola, LG, and Apple. Now, your e-paper screen is getting a taste of Android Wear itself, with Pebble gaining the ability to show you Android Wear notifications.
