Mario Maker delayed, will drop for Wii U in September

During the Nintendo Direct broadcast today, Nintendo announced its Mario Maker software has been delayed, and will be coming in September of this year. With the software, gamers are able to create their own Mario levels by placing bricks and other items into the game -- making for all the fun of Mario alongside completely new and customized levels. It's not that crushing of news, considering that many people were unaware of when it was originally going to release, and so this comes across more like a launch announcement than anything else.

Nintendo outs its amiibo plans: next wave starts May 29

Nintendo has seen rampant success with its amiibo lineup, something we've detailed at various times including earlier this year. That momentum has encouraged the company to keep going, and so it will be dropping loads of new amiibo, including the Yarn Yoshi we saw this evening. The first wave of new amiibo, which include PacMan and Wario, will be arriving on May 29, and they'll be followed up with two more waves, one taking place in July sometime, and another on an unspecified day in September.

Artist hacks together Game Boy and camera into 8-bit printer

Nintendo has a history of releasing obscure, rarely used peripherals for its video game consoles and portables. In this instance, I'm talking specifically about the Game Boy Camera and Game Boy Printer, two accessories for Nintendo's original 8-bit handheld that, well, let you take small, lo-fi pictures and print them with the same quality as a cash register receipt. Well, a Russian artist must've used these as inspiration, because he's hacked together what basically amounts to be a Game Boy-photo-gun-printer.

Nintendo says live-action Zelda rumor is based on wrong info

Early last month, word surfaced via a source talking to the Wall Street Journal that a live-action Zelda show would be arriving on Netflix, and that it would be a high-quality offering akin to "Game of Thrones", only for kids. Such a rumor set the Internet abuzz, but nothing official about the series has been announced in the weeks since the rumor first surfaced, and now Nintendo has come around to squash our hopes. The company's CEO says that the rumors weren't based on the right info, and though he doesn't blatantly say "it's not happening", it looks less hopeful than anticipated.

Now it is hinting at its next gen console, codenamed NX, coming next year, which might also be something unexpected from the company.
