Nintendo freezes Pokemon Bank US launch as eShop woes continue

Nintendo has cancelled its Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter launch plans in North America amid ongoing service outages, that have left the eShop inaccessible to Wii U and 3DS gamers since Christmas Day. The decision, Nintendo says, will mean that today's expected launch of the 3DS Pokemon service will no longer go ahead, having been postponed to an unspecified point in the future as it attempts to wrangle its recalcitrant servers.

Nintendo eShop offline and Pokemon Bank frozen as servers struggle

Nintendo may not have made the same headlines as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 over the holidays, but a surge of users has seen the eShop suffer downtime for 3DS and Wii U owners since Christmas. The company has blamed an inrush of Nintendo Network ID registrations leaving owners of both its handheld and living room systems unable to access the eShop download store, and even forcing Nintendo to take its Pokemon Bank service offline in Japan.

Nintendo Needs to Launch a New Console In 2014

It’s official: the time has come for Nintendo to put an end to its Wii U game-playing and launch a new console in 2014.

Now, I should note that the Wii U shouldn’t be tossed aside like yesterday’s news, but it should be dramatically reduced in price. What’s more, it should become the “cheap” console option for those who want to get into Nintendo gaming. For everyone else, Nintendo needs to deliver a high-end piece of hardware that can compete with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Wii U Sports Club Golf now available

I always thought that some of the best games on the original Nintendo Wii were the Wii Sports Mini games that came with the console. I always particularly liked the golf game. I mentioned a while back that Nintendo was working on a sports themed game for the Wii U called Wii Sports Club.

Supposing it's been a while since you've played Pokemon, you might not know that the current number of unique pocket monsters is well over 600. That still doesn't add up to the massive number of creatures users will be able to hold at once when the system known as Pokemon Bank launches on December 27th. This new "downloadable software service" for both Pokemon X and Pokemon Y will offer up a whopping 3,000 Pokemon spaces for storage, each of them housed in private boxes online for swapping and management.

Nintendo 3DS XL Mario and Luigi Dream Team Bundle keeps it classic

Nintendo has pushed word this week that they'll be continuing to create the Nintendo 3DS XL with an interesting twist: Mario and Luigi up top! This machine works the same as the original Nintendo 3DS XL, but in this case you'll find Mario and Luigi peering around the sides of the box and rolling through inside the machine itself as well. This design change will only exist in a special bundle package with a name reflecting the gold.

Nintendo 64 revived in color Lekki edition

Nintendo 64 revived in color Lekki edition

We're certain you did not expect to see the name Nintendo 64 in your news feed today, but there it is - revived by the company called Lekki. This machine will be sold by the company in a collection of new colors never available with the console's standard run. While users were able to get a black/gray unit as well as some particularly flashy bright yellow Pokemon style runs, this release (unofficial, non-Nintendo sanctioned, mind you), will come in a set of white-topped colored-bottom units.
