Isis locks up deals with Chase, Capital One

If you're able to take full advantage of Google Wallet right now, you're in the minority of a minority of a minority. When its rival platform Isis launches later this year, chances are much higher you'll be able to see all that Near Field Communication (NFC) payments have to offer. Isis announced today that it has secured deals with Chase, Capital One, and Barclaycard, meaning customers who have an account with any of those three powerhouses will be eligible to enroll, provided their phone meets the hardware requirements.

Panasonic ELUGA Power hands-on

Panasonic ELUGA Power hands-on

The original Panasonic ELUGA gained a bigger sibling this morning in the shape of the ELUGA Power, an oversized, faster version of the slimline Android smartphone. We grabbed some hands-on time with a very early prototype, and while Panasonic wouldn't let us dunk it underwater as we did with the ELUGA, it was still enough to get an idea of where the company's smartphone strategy is headed.

Samsung Galaxy Beam Hands-on

Samsung Galaxy Beam Hands-on

Samsung has another Galaxy smartphone for the world, only this time it comes equipped with a 15 lumen pico projector and might even land in the US. We saw this earlier in the week but were able to get some quick hands-on photos of the little projector today. It might not be the brightest but for those unique situations where it's needed it seems to work great.

ZTE Era Hands-on

ZTE Era Hands-on

Along with the rest of their 2012 rebirth announced earlier today via a torrent of Android smartphones, the ZTE Era stood out as a powerhouse to be reckoned with. We've gotten the chance to take a hands-on look at an early build of this device now, it and its giant AP30+1450 quad-core processor, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, and 4.3-inch TFT display at qHD 960 x 540 pixel resolution. Nokia MWC 2012: 41-megapixels and cheap Windows Phones

Nokia MWC 2012: 41-megapixels and cheap Windows Phones

If there was a "Phoenix From The Ashes" award at Mobile World Congress it's hard to argue that Nokia wouldn't be the most worthy recipient. Twelve months ago the company was apologetically admitting it had no new devices for MWC 2011, and today it revealed a bevy of phones that opened new doors in developing markets, pushed the envelope for Windows Phone pricing, and busted the smartphone camera segment right open. We've a whole lot of Nokia coverage, so head on past the cut to get up to speed.

ViewSonic ViewPhone 4s Hands-on

ViewSonic ViewPhone 4s Hands-on

Mobile World Congress 2012 has already proven itself as one massive draw to manufacturers ability to announce a massive amount of smartphones at once this year, and ViewSonic is no exception to the rule, starting here with the ViewPhone 4s. This device is one of three dual-sim smartphones announced this week by the company, the others being the ViewPhone 5e with a few rounded edges and slightly lower-tiered specs, and the ViewPhone 4e, which essentially replicates the case of the 4s in most ways. The ViewPhone 4s has a Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a cool two-tone set of casings, and a lovely 3.5-inch display running at 960 x 640 pixels resolution, this matching the iPhone's 326ppi IPS display.

We give Panasonic’s ELUGA a bath

Panasonic isn't taking any chances with its smartphone expansion plans; its ELUGA phone line-up promises speed, style and useful ruggedness, so we grabbed an ELUGA and gave it an impromptu bath. Waterproof, along with dustproof, the ELUGA can survive in up to a meter of water for a 30 minute period; we didn't leave it that long, however, as the 4.3-inch qHD OLED display was asking to be played with.
