The Helio Ocean 2 has gone on sale, with Virgin Mobile offering the dual-sliding 3G feature-phone for $149 with a new subscription.  Alternatively, existing users still within their contract can buy the Ocean 2 for its MRSP of $400.

We met with Virgin Mobile while at CTIA Wireless this week, and in-between taking a look at their first self-branded 3G handset, the Shuttle, had a chance to ask them about their plans for Helio.  Virgin bought out the carrier, which also uses the Sprint network, earlier this year, and since then subscribers and analysts [...]

This has been a big week for Virgin Mobile with announcing their unlimited calling plans and now its purchase of Helio for $39 million. Helio’s 170,000 customers will be merged into Virgin’s network.

There have been a few rumors pertaining to the future of Helio, one of which being that they will be shutting down some of their stores to cut down on costs. Another has been that Helio might be merging with Virgin Mobile.
