Samsung ST80 WiFi digicam packs 14.2MP and 720p HD video

Samsung has outed its latest digital camera, and the ST80 packs WiFi along with its 14.2-megapixel sensor.  As with other Samsung wireless cameras, the ST80 can offload its photos via email or through direct upload to Facebook, Picasa, YouTube or PhotoBucket, and the company even throws in a Boingo WiFi hotspot account too; alternatively there's DLNA streaming support. No 1080p 3D PS3 gaming confirms Sony

Sony has confirmed that 3D gaming on the PS3 will be limited to 720p HD, rather than full 1080p HD, by virtue of the nature of the 3D system the company is using.  Speaking at the Develop conference, Sony's Simon Benson said that while 1080p 3D movies would play on the PS3, the need for high framerates - in the region of 60fps - for 3D gaming meant that resolution would have to suffer if gameplay wasn't to be jerky. Motorola XT720 tipped for July 19th UK launch

Motorola's Milestone XT720, the 3.7-inch keyboard-free sequel to the European Motorola Milestone, is set to hit the UK on Monday July 19th according to retailer Clove.  The Android 2.1 smartphone packs an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and a Xenon flash, together with 720p HD video recording and a mini-HDMI port for hooking up your nearest HDTV. 5MP iPod touch with FaceTime and HD video incoming?

Apple are preparing an iPod touch refresh with a 5-megapixel camera, front-facing webcam for WiFi FaceTime video calls, and the same accelerometer and gyroscope updates as in the iPhone 4, claims UK retailer John Lewis.  The predictions - sourced, John Lewis told Electricpig, from "noises we're hearing from suppliers" - suggest that the traditional September refresh of Apple's touchscreen PMP will see it targeted as an all-round multimedia device for the youth market. Samsung Galaxy S2 i9200 tipped: 2GHz, 720p Super AMOLED display and more

It's a slow news day, so lets dabble our feet in the murky rumor waters for a while and take a look at what we're told is the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9200.  The tipped successor to the Galaxy S, and supposedly due in early 2011, according to the talk circulating Russian forum itrans the Galaxy S2 is said to have a whopping 4.3-inch 1,280 x 720 Super AMOLED display with around 340 pixels per inch, certainly intruding into Apple's Retina Display realm. Meanwhile there's also supposedly a 2GHz CPU paired with 1GB of RAM and a 4GB ROM, together with 32GB of flash storage and a microSD card slot.  The camera is said to be 8-megapixels capable of not just 720p but 1080p Full HD video recording, and the OS to be Android "Gingerbread" which we've heard is expected to drop in Q4 this year.  Connectivity includes WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, while there's also A-GPS, an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity and ambient light sensors. Android LG tablet and flagship Optimus Z refresh due Q4

LG are planning to release an Android-based tablet in Q4 2010, as part of a new push for the Google OS both in its home Korea and abroad.  The unnamed tablet is yet to be detailed; however, LG has also revealed it's working on an updated version of the Optimus Z SU950, with the same OMAP3630 processor as found in the DROID X and a 3.8-inch display, for launch in Q4. 720p video and MiFi tipped for Verizon DROID Incredible

Signs of an upcoming firmware update that would add 720p HD video recording functionality and the ability to act as a 3G mobile WiFi hotspot to the Verizon DROID Incredible have been spotted.  The new abilities were discovered on a test HTC Incredible loaned to a member of AndroidForums, who promptly shared some images of the two new changes. Android 3.0 Gingerbread detailed: 720p displays & intentional fragmentation in Q4 [Updated]

New Android 3.0 Gingerbread details have emerged, courtesy of notorious mobile industry insider Eldar Murtazin of mobile-review and his Russian-language Digestive podcast.  According to Murtazin - handily translated by UnwiredView - we can expect Gingerbread in mid-October 2010 with the first handsets preinstalled with the new OS arriving in November/December.  They'll be impressive beasts, too; minimum hardware requirements are apparently a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and a 3.5-inch screen or larger, with up to 1,280 x 760 resolution displays supported on 4-inch or bigger handsets. Verizon Motorola DROID X shows up on “coming soon” teaser

Verizon has officially acknowledged the Motorola DROID X, with a new teaser page that suggests the touchscreen smartphone is "coming soon".  Accompanying the image - which suggests the DROID X will slot in-between the original DROID and DROID Incredible - are a few basic specifications: a 4.3-inch, 720p capable display and an HDMI output. Update: Verizon has updated their teaser site to replace "720p screen" to "captures 720p". Read The Full Story

Nokia N8 first-impressions [Video]

Nokia’s N8 remains one of the more interesting smartphones of 2010, and we leapt at a chance to have an extended play with the Symbian^3 handset as it made its debut in London this morning. Toting a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with multitouch support, 12-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 720p HD video recording and a Xenon flash, and a slick anodised aluminium chassis, our biggest question was whether Nokia’s OS fettling had been enough to make the N8 competitive with what’s an increasingly competitive smartphone market. Samsung's Galaxy S GT-I9000 has shown up for preorder on Vodafone UK's site, priced from free with a new agreement.  Expected to hit shelves on June 15th - next Tuesday - the Galaxy S has a 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16GB of internal storage (plus a microSD card slot) and runs Android 2.1.
