Acer V Nitro Black Series laptops gain 4K option

Back in late September we were introduced to Acer's V Nitro Black Edition Series of gaming-centric laptops. These machines came in two forms for those in the United States, both of them bringing Full HD 1080p resolution on displays measuring in at 15.6-inches and 17.3-inches, respectively. Those who need a display with a little more oomph will soon have a new option in the product lineup, the company revealed earlier this week: a 15.6-inch notebook with a 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD resolution.

Sharp have gone through said process with their newest UD27 line of Ultra HD (aka 4K) TVs, bringing on sets that've therefor passed more than 400 picture quality tests set up by THX. 4K isn't coming just to TVs in your living room, it will also be coming to computer monitors as well. After all, in order to have 4K content to show on those UHD TV sets, you need to have those produced on computers and machines first. Samsung taps Joseph Gordon-Levitt to film 4K short

Samsung is looking to show off what its NX1 camera can do by tapping Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his production company HitRECord, which will use the new camera to film a short 4K film. The movie will be called In a City, and it will be filmed entirely with the NX1 in Ultra HD resolution. Joining that version of the short film with be a similar one made using crowdsourced videos contributed by HitRECord members, five of whom will ultimately be awarded an NX1 camera.

First reaction among those setting eyes on Apple's new iMac with Retina 5K Display after it was announced yesterday was typically along the lines of "Wow": even Tim Cook couldn't resist the charms of the 14.7m pixel all-in-one, and he knew it was coming. The second, though, from a few laterally-thinkers in the crowd, was to ask whether the iMac would support Target Display mode, and thus turn into a standalone 5K monitor for a plugged-in MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, that's just not the case, and in fact some big changes need to take place before we can even get a standalone 5K update for the aging Thunderbolt Display.
