Some of you may have read about the Pocket Surfer phone from DataWind back in 2004. It raised a lot of eyebrows, and questions. Mostly “when will it be launched?” Well, DataWind is back with their PocketSurfer 2.

So you’ve heard that HP has brought back the iPAQ line in the form of the Voice Messenger. But now you want hands on pics? We’ve got you covered.

More after the jump.
And so, smarting from the craptastic design efforts of ASUS, we turn our beady 3GSM-eye to i-mate. Now I’ll confess early on that I’m in two minds about i-mate’s showing this year – their main design theme seems to be “gaudy”, including one phone they’re calling ‘Ultimate’ but I’ll forever think of as the i-mate JayLenoChinphone, but there’s a thread of sober sexiness in the shape of the JAQ 4. Keep reading for photos, then make up your own mind…

The new colourful SPL range, above, smacks a little of Motorola-style brand-broadening desperation. Full specs are here (let’s just say they’ve not changed much other than the colour), but highlights remain the 12mm profile, 2-megapixel camera and quad-band GSM.
Check out the rest of them after the cut…
So Sprint has only just got the Q, and Motorola are cocking a snook at them and saying “look, we’ve developed the Q gsm and Q q9″ the cheeky swines. Still, not being in the US means I owe nothing to Sprint, so let’s forget about them for the moment and look at what goodies Moto has delivered for us.

First off, the Q gsm (left) is an upgrade and re-casing of the previous model, bringing it up to date OS-wise courtesy of Windows Mobile 6 as well as quad-band GSM and EDGE data support. The Q q9 (right) keeps the old case but throws the lovely HSDPA into the mix, as well as that all-important quad-band GSM and EDGE. More details after the cut.
I’m pretty sure the people at Nokia are scratching their heads about all the verbiage surrounding Motorola’s new Z8 slider with its “Kick Slide” - after all, wasn’t their 1996 Nokia 8110 similarly curved to cater to the typical swooping jawline? Ancestry aside, the Z8 is a pretty nice step up from the run of the mill V3-rebranding the company has been pumping out lately, with headline features including HSDPA and – a first for Motorola – using the Symbian OS.

With one fell swoop, then, Motorola should silence a whole lot of their critics who bemoan the (admittedly dire) OS previous phones have been saddled with. The 2.2-inch QVGA screen and A2DP stereo Bluetooth support should ice that metaphorical kidney too.
Oh crap, somebody tell ASUS that HTC’s industrial design is not worth copying! Gear Diary’s Judie has stopped by the company’s stand at 3GSM and uncovered a bevy of new smartphones from the company. Specifications are thin on the ground, but what we do know is that someone in the company’s design department has been busy with the Enchanted Wand of Bland. Check out the P735 and P526:
Seriously, guys & gals of ASUS, you’d made sexy tech in the past – what’s going on now? Check out the dreary line-up after the cut…
Rollable displays have been something of a mainstay of science fiction and futurology articles, perhaps because there’s something undeniably cool about taking a product we’re all familiar with – in this case paper – and giving it a super-sexy high-tech makeover. However while there have been numerous prototypes shown at trade fairs and expos, up until now our e-books have been resolutely stiff. Well, that’s due to change thanks to Polymer Vision and their READIUS display. SlashGear was there to have a good play, as well as take these exclusive photos.

Fitting a five-inch monochrome screen into svelte chassis takes some doing, and it’s been a three year labour of love for the Eindhoven-based company. Now they’re ramping up production at a new UK plant, using Thin Film Transistor equipment which gives the high-contrast, high-reflectivity display an e-book friendly 16-levels of grey. Currently screen refreshes take 1-2 seconds, meaning it’s not really suitable for video, but the super-clear text and the fact that it only consumes power when changing the display, not for maintaining an image, makes it ideal for a dynamically updated text-news source.
We knew it was coming, and now it’s here – Neonode’s N2 touchscreen cellphone has been officially launched at 3GSM and SlashGear was there to wet the baby’s head. Enjoy these exclusive photos, then head over to MYiPhone for full details of the specs…

Two gadgets on the run with matte casings – and looking all the better for it! I love the look of this phone.
