Wii U games to see digital and retail launch parity

Nintendo will offer full Wii U games both in-store and by digital download from launch, though pricing and exact availability for the console won't be revealed at E3 2012 as hoped. Speaking in a financial results briefing after announcing Nintendo's first ever annual loss, president Satoru Iwata confirmed that the company would begin full game sales via the eShop on the 3DS from August, ahead of full parity between physical retail and digital sales for the upcoming touchscreen console.

4.5 million Nintendo 3DS portables sold in the US

Nintendo has announced sales numbers for the 3DS in the United States in its first year. According to Nintendo, it sold 4.5 million units during the first year the 3DS was available in the states. That is almost twice as many than the number of Nintendo DS units were sold in the first year. Nintendo attributes much of the success of the 3DS to popular video games that launched throughout the first year the 3DS was offered.

Nintendo promises splashy launch for NFC-toting Wii U

Nintendo's Wii U will have NFC functionality and digital download support, president Iwata Satoru has confirmed, promising a better splash for the next-gen console having "learned a bitter lesson from the launch of the Nintendo 3DS." Speaking to investors and analysts after revealing dire financial results for the last quarter, Satoru revealed that NFC short-range wireless had been added to the Wii U's specs, supporting payments, reading tags embedded into "cards and figurines", and more. Meanwhile there'll also be a new Nintendo Network account service, allowing multiple users to have their own separate profile on the Wii U.

Nintendo 3DS gets Game Boy Advance games in market – sort of

When the original $250 USD version of the Nintendo 3DS was released, not just one whole heck of a lot of people purchased it - but those of you who did were promised 20 free downloadable games, 10 of them NES games that have now been available to play since September 2011, the rest being Game Boy Advance games and announced this week as being available for your downloading delight. This was all part of what Nintendo called an "Ambassador" program for those mad about grabbing the 3DS before the great price drop also known as "woops we didnt realize you didnt want to pay that much" early in the device's life - now the joke is yours! These games include such greats as Wario Land 4 and Mario vs. Donkey Kong - what treats!

If you own a Nintendo 3DS a new software update is now available for the portable console that brings with it some new features. That update was originally expected last month and then Nintendo said it would land December 8. That would have made the roll out start tomorrow. For whatever reason, the update is available today, a day before expected. That is certainly better than another delay in the roll out.
