Nintendo eShop offline and Pokemon Bank frozen as servers struggle

Nintendo may not have made the same headlines as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 over the holidays, but a surge of users has seen the eShop suffer downtime for 3DS and Wii U owners since Christmas. The company has blamed an inrush of Nintendo Network ID registrations leaving owners of both its handheld and living room systems unable to access the eShop download store, and even forcing Nintendo to take its Pokemon Bank service offline in Japan.

The funding goal was ambitious, seeking millions, yet saw its milestones reached at a clipped rate, such as the unlocking of PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U versions back on September 17. The campaign reached its end on Kickstarter this evening, managing to hit its goal ahead of the countdown timer.

It seems as if this moment couldn't come any sooner, as Nintendo is finally releasing a black version of their 3DS XL handheld gaming system. Nintendo has previously released colored models with black trim and such, but this will be the first all-black version to hit retail, and it's coming on the same day as the release of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team on August 11.

Nintendo reveals Wii U bigger batteries for GamePad and Wiimote, more

Nintendo has outed a fresh batch of hardware and accessories for Japan, including a white Wii U 32GB console and a larger battery for the tablet GamePad controller to address runtime claims. The new white Wii U 32GB Premium edition should arrive in Japan on July 13, functionally identical to the existing black model aside from the new casing; it'll go on sale alongside a new Rapid Charging Stand for the Wiimote, which Nintendo says will cut down the amount of time gamers will need to have the motion-sensing controller on charge.
