Monster Hunter Stories for 3DS will take a “new direction”

Monster Hunter Stories for 3DS will take a “new direction”

Monster Hunter is dead. Long live Monster Hunter. Or something to that effect. The next installment for the Monster Hunter franchise has just been revealed and its already causing a bit of a stir. First, it will be available for the Nintendo 3DS, no word yet on any plans to debut elsewhere. But perhaps more importantly, there are already hints in place that Monster Hunter Stories, as it will be officially called, will not be like the Monster Hunter that you might have grown to love, but one that its creators will take to a new direction.

New Nintendo 3DS XL System Transfer requirement: screwdriver

Is the smaller New Nintendo 3DS coming to the US?

The New Nintendo 3DS was dangled before fans' eyes but kept beyond reach for a while, later surfacing in a leak earlier this week and, finally, being officially announced for the US market. Only, there was an unexpected oddity. Those who watched Nintendo Direct yesterday morning and kept tabs on the announcements would have noticed that only the New 3DS XL, the larger of the two units, was promised to be arriving next month for US buyers. Nintendo is being vague about why.

Nintendo’s New 3DS: North America announcement tipped

Nintendo’s New 3DS: North America announcement tipped

Nintendo's uncomfortably named "New 3DS" handheld console has thus far eluded fans in North America. Those long dark days of waiting may be nearing their end, however, with a flier that recently surfaced via NeoGAF suggesting an announcement for North America will be happening in the very near future, and that the console's release will be taking place in nearly one month on the dot. It isn't an official announcement at this point, of course, but such fliers often prove accurate.

If Nintendo teamed with Google

If Nintendo teamed with Google

If Nintendo teamed with Google, great things would happen. Nintendo would go mobile - and it'd go mobile in style. If Nintendo teamed with Google today, they'd release their game archives as apps, all contained inside an original NES emulator, one that exists as the only place you're able to play these games outside the original NES or Wii. We can imagine this reality thanks to an artist named WoopWoopWoopWooop. He's from Reddit, and this is a mockup. It's not real, but we wish it was.

Nintendo 2DS goes crystal for retro-styled specials

Nintendo 2DS goes crystal for retro-styled specials

Nintendo's flattened-out 2DS glasses-free games console is more than a year old, certainly ripe for a revamp, and that's coming in the form of two new case finishes and a sub-$100 sticker price. The Crystal Red and Crystal Blue 2DS models each have semi-transparent bodies that allow you to see the vague shape of the circuits inside, a visual flourish that - while not adding anything to the actually usability of the handheld - does at least look pretty eye-catching. After all, it's not like Nintendo is lacking when it comes to a transparent track-record.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: 8-player Smash, Mewtwo & Ridley

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: 8-player Smash, Mewtwo & Ridley

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U may well be the most hotly anticipated Nintendo title for the holidays, and so the Japanese gaming firm isn't stinting on features. The game will include a whopping eight player "Smash" mode during which players will be able to compete simultaneously in local multiplayer on specially-enlarged stages, as well as the ability to create custom stages and - eventually - share them with other players. Meanwhile, there are some benefits for those who have Super Smash Bros. on both Wii U and 3DS, too.
