, Jul 11th 2011 Discuss [0]

Panasonic has announced that it has given NASA some hardware to take to the ISS aboard the final space shuttle mission with Atlantis that launched last Friday. Panasonic sent one of its new and cool full 3D AG-3DA1 camcorders along with a BT-3DL2550 25.5-inch 3D LCD and a rugged Toughbook notebook computer to NASA. That gear was used to document the training and preparation leading to the final shuttle mission. Only the 3DA1 camcorder made the trip into space. Read The Full Story

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Review

, Jul 8th 2011 Discuss [20]

I will admit that I am a hater. An overwhelming majority of my movie reviews on SlashGear have been negative. When they were positive, they were usually reviews for pretentious Oscar-fodder like Black Swan. I’m more likely to hate movies that other people liked, and I pride myself more on hating those movies in new and interesting ways, rather than bucking the trend. This is why my review of “Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon” may come as a surprise. If you liked anything about the previous Transformers movies, you will like “Transformers 3.” I recommend it. Go see it and have a good time.

3D printer uses chocolate for printing!

, Jul 6th 2011 Discuss [1]

Not long ago I talked about a 3D printer called the Solar Sinter that uses sand and solar power to print 3D objects. That was cool and all, but let's face it printing a 3D object with sand is interesting, but those objects would not taste good at all. If you want to print edible 3D shapes what you need is this 3D printer that uses chocolate as the print medium. Yum. Read The Full Story

Toshiba Qosmio F750 3D Hands-On

, Jul 5th 2011 Discuss [2]

Toshiba’s clever new 3D laptop, the Qosmio F750 3D, only got official this morning, but SlashGear stopped by for some early playtime to see just how well the glasses-free display worked. Built around a Core i7 processor, 6GB of DDR3 memory and NVIDIA GeForce 540 GT graphics, the F750 3D is no slouch in terms of performance, but it’s the display – capable of simultaneously showing 2D and 3D pictures, tailored to where you’re sitting in front of the notebook – that’s the star of the show. Check out our hands-on impressions after the cut.

Toshiba has outed its latest 3D laptop, the Qosmio F750 3D, the first to offer glasses-free 3D. Pairing a lenticular display - which splits the image between the left and right eyes - with a 15.6-inch Full HD LCD panel and clever eye-tracking technology to preserve the 3D effect even as you move your head around, the Toshiba Qosmio F750 3D has a 2.0GHz Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M graphics, 6GB of DDR3 memory and a Blu-ray XL recordable drive. Samsung gobbles 61% of 3D TV market

, Jul 4th 2011 Discuss [4]

The 3D TV market is hardly booming today with the sets not selling as well as TV makers had expected. This is due to a number of reasons including the lack of 3D content and the fact that the tech is more expensive than most consumers are willing to pay today. That will change and 3D TV will become more and more common as the tech matures and gets cheaper and better. Read The Full Story

Pic3D sheets turn your 2D smartphones and displays into 3D screens

, Jun 30th 2011 Discuss [0]

I like 3D content. If I have the choice of a movie in 2D or a flick in 3D, I will take the 3D offering. My son also has a 3DS and I think the 3D makes the little portable much cooler than it would be if it were only 2D. One day I will move up to a 3D TV for my house, but I am waiting until we can watch 3D content with no glasses from all angles that a normal TV supports before I buy. In the interim a company from Japan called Global Wave has an interesting new film that sticks to your computer screen, tablet, or smartphone and makes the display 3D. Read The Full Story

Gadmei P83 PMP does 3D with no glasses on the cheap

, Jun 28th 2011 Discuss [6]

I would have to say that this is one of the more interesting items that Brando has ever had on its website. Generally the company has cheesy USB gear that is of questionable value. This PMP, which looks more like a tablet, certainly won't beat out many of the more popular and well-known PMPs in most minds, but the thing is cool nonetheless. It’s called the Gadmei P83 3D PMP. Solar Sinter uses sand and sun for 3D printing

, Jun 27th 2011 Discuss [1]

A student named Markus Kayser created an awesome project for a MA Design Products project. I hope he graduates with honors simply for the coolness of this project. Kayser created a device that can take advantage of the two unlimited resources out in the desert - sun and sand. The project is dubbed Solar Sinter and is a 3D printer powered by the sun and it uses the sand as the medium to create the objects it prints. Read The Full Story

Lytro light field camera promises shoot now, focus later

, Jun 22nd 2011 Discuss [1]

Light Field Photography may not sound like much, but if new camera company Lytro can pull it off, it may well be next big buzzword after HDR. Promising to do away with pre-photography focusing and frustrating delays between powering your camera on and taking a photo, Lytro’s camera doesn’t just grab a normal frame but records the “light field” – the amount of light traveling in every direction through every point in space – then uses that directional information to allow viewers to shift the point of focus in the subsequent images, shift the perspective, and even flick between 2D and 3D. See a demo after the cut.

HTC EVO 3D Review

, Jun 18th 2011 Discuss [129]

The HTC EVO and its chanting followers is something we rarely see in the smartphone industry, back when it launched it had a very quick rise to fame. I mean it had that huge 4.3″ screen that made all the other phones around look tiny, it had 4G and it was fast. I can see why everyone fell in love with the original EVO and why its still selling like hot cakes, it is a sweet phone. Will the new HTC EVO 3D live up to the same fame — can it be everything and more? Read on to find out.
