So you’ve grown out of that candy watch you wore when you were little, and now you’re looking for a fashionable and geekily clever timepiece that’ll serve you well.  A Swatch just doesn’t cut it, and the “decipher this binary code and figure out the time”-style curios are just too gimmicky; what you want to do, then, is petition Tag Heuer to make them build the Monaco V4 belt-driven watch.

Tag Heuer Monaco V4 concept watch

Normal self-winders have a weighted semi-circular disk that rotates from a central pivot with the arm’s movement and thus powers the mechanism.  However the Monaco V4 has an oblong weight which moves in a central channel, in turn powering four ball-bearing barrels.  Tag are calling it the first patented belt-drive watch mechanism; all I know is that I want one!  Make sure you check out the moderately-pretentious Monaco V4 video on Tag’s site.
