Everyone is coming with its own operating system. This is going to be madness. No standardization whatsoever. Right now I have a network at home running windows and I just got an HP 500 Slate running Windows 7 professional. The tablet can get data from any PC in the network, can print to a printer in the network, and has Flash for the browser with Norton as the standard security across the network and Tablet. I can share all files. But all those corporations want as a status symbol their own OS. Their marketing departments are totally confused and promise everything and after you buy their products you find out that they are not compatible with one another, have no Flash, etc. What a mess this is !!!

HP's history is not good when it comes to acquisitions and integrating them - taking their time and letting things mature. $1.2 billion in cash was nothing to them and they COULD walk away sooner then later IMHO.

I don't belive this about HP is correct. They might have it as a backup plan, but it's more likely that HP will be doing a completly different set of business tablets. Once Windows 8 is complete we will see them pop up. Those will probably be handled by their notebook team since they made the Windows 7-based Slate 500.

I hope HP knows that it's in there for the long run. It takes some years for a new OS (like Webos) to establish itself. They need to stick their course and keep refreshing their hardware and software once a year.

If they don't do this, I don't see why they bought Palm in the first place.

This is very bad news. With Android "Honeycomb" falling flat on its face to very bad reviews from sites like TechCrunch, Engadget and Ars Technica, I really think HP has a shot at being a contender in the tablet space. Apple needs serious competition, the kind Android's provided in the smartphone space. HP has the strongest OS and a very compelling suite of devices coming up, and it really, really saddens me to think they might already be losing faith in their tablet. Please HP, dig in, keep on working on your tablet and its software, there is room for a big contender or two next to Apple. A lot of people are interested in webOS, giving up at this point would be a big mistake.
