If Deutsche Telekom was foolish enough to let T-Mobile fall apart while trying to shove through a deal with AT&T that was bad for consumers... that is their own fault. Sell it to someone who is small enough to get approval or cough up the $9 billion and get in the game. Not many wireless companies get $3 billion in cash and additional spectrum from a competitor as a gift. They should consider themselves blessed 1/3 of their costs are covered by the AT&T breakup fee and get to work.

"“Without the combination, we think the wireless industry will be further weakened by continued hyper-competitive activity”

Yes, I am sure the very well compensated analyst Mr. McCormack doesn't care if his wireless bill doubles in the next few years because less competition means higher prices to consumers and more profits. However, "hyper-competitive activity” is GOOD for consumers who already can't afford the around $100 a month wireless providers seems to have decided is a good average monthly bill per customer no matter how much you cut back on services. Let them fight and have wireless prices drop. Good for consumers, good for the country. Good for access to wireless services in low income communities. Shareholders can live with much lower margins.

Contrary to the FCC and Justice Departments concerns that AT&T buying T-Mobile USA would have been bad for competition, analysts reckon the opposite is true.
“Without the combination, we think the wireless industry will be further weakened by continued hyper-competitive activity,”
No those two statements are the same. The Justice department claimed that the buyout would be bad for competition and then analysts stated the same thing... that the buyout would have reduced competition. Without TMo as a competitor, the remaining wireless providers have more market power, would probably be more profitable, and customers would most likely be paying more money for service.
*I am in no way endorsing the actions of the DoJ and FCC*
