T-Mobile, Sprint calls & texts to/from Nepal free until May 16

Over the weekend, a massive earthquake hit Nepal. As rescuers continue to find survivors amidst the chaos, their families around the globe wait in anticipation for word their loved ones are alive and well. In a time of crisis, T-Mobile is doing the right thing. The Uncarrier is the first carrier to make all calls and texts to and from Nepal free, where fees are either credited back (depending on your billing cycle) or waved altogether through May 16.

While this type of news often comes with the unsaid caveat of being for postpaid customers only, T-Mobile is making the feature available to prepaid customers as well.

The news first came to us via T-Mobile CEO John Legere, who tweeted about the new feature over the weekend. Since, Sprint has also made calls and texts to and from Nepal free for their users.

AT&T and Verizon have made no such announcements.

T-Mobile is also encouraging users to donate to earthquake disaster relief for Nepal via the following methods:

• Save the Children – Text NEPAL to 20222 to donate $10 to Save the Children

• UNICEF – Text NEPAL to 864233 to donate $10 to UNICEF

• World Vision – Text NEPAL to 777444 to donate $10 to World Vision

Donations will be charged to your T-Mobile bill (postpaid), with 100% of donations going to charity.
