Samsung has released the source code for all of the carrier specific builds so I would expect custom mods and updates to start showing up in the coming months. There is also a very active community over at xda-developers that is working on the various problems with bringing custom roms and updates to the Tab. This is why I love Android and my Tab. :)

It`s not often we get the superior electronics here first in the U.K. But my Tab complete with full functioning phone is proving to be my favourite gadget for a very long time. using CoPilot the sat nav is brilliant, downloaded tv which is mostly 16:9 plays very well (i use myplayer for BBC) the only issues so far are the inability to change certain feeds for news (but since they U.S. based probably ok for your market) and despite having a 2amp usb the inability so far to charge the tab in car. Samsung are being very slow to get the accessories to the shops here but i generally get about a days use from the battery. Though annoyingly they seem to have followed Apples lead here and made it non accessible so the option of buying and carrying a charged spare is not available. Also i have a suspicion that come the time it needs replacing this will prove to be rather expensive.

Size is a matter of opinion. I'm tired of people complaining about the tabs size. I personally like the size of my iPad and feel that the tab is worthless for at it's size because I have a smartphone that can go everywhere with me.

I think the best argument is the one that talks about productivity. Apple has shown us that they expect actual documents to be created by bringing the iWork suite to the iPad. The iPad is big enough to mimic the laptop more than the tab. It's still developing into a productivity machine but it's much closer than the tab just because of it's size. I can type comfortably with 10 fingers and not get frustrated.

The tab will never offer consumers this opportunity at 7 inches. Future models of the iPad will devour the tab and any other 7 inch tablet. Samsung is thinking on the now, but Apple thought about the future. The tab is destined to be just a consuming device with email production while the iPad has the potential to be something special.

But then again, Smasung and others will come with more tablets in bigger sizes. This in itself is another huge problem for android tablets. The developer community is going to be confused. Android tablets will never have the app store like an iPad because of the size difference of it's tablets.

iPad 2 is going to be something to marvel at compared to any other tablet.

1. How do existing Android apps look on the Tab’s screen?
Answer: Most apps look good, while a few looks pixelated which is expected. I've uploaded a few more examples for you.

2. What are upgrade plans since Gingerbread is just about here and Honeycomb will be Google’s tablet OS?
Answer: Hard to say because it's up to Samsung. Considering all the Galaxy S android phones are still on 2.1 --- it doesn't look hopeful that Sammy will have honeycomb for Tab anytime in the near future. (FYI, Gingerbread is for mobile devices while Honeycomb is for tablets).

3. I think this smaller “tablet” can present competition to the iPod Touch, but not the iPad.
Answer: Yep, it's a matter of preference.

Honestly, this weekend I bought presents for my family just so I wouldn't fall to the temptation to buy the Tab for myself. I like everything about it, but don't feel yet the cost is fully justified, so I will wait a couple of months.

About the review: there were a few pointless statements, for example on which carriers the radio would work -- this is the TMO version, why would it have AT&T frequencies, duh?! At the same time, I didn't get to learn if the plastic on the back is any different from the white one of the Euro version -- it looks not as glossy on the picture, perhaps provides better grip? I am also curious what phone number is displayed when sending SMS and MMS, and if one can reply to that number (or even call o_O).

Yes, out of the box, the iPad does lack some important features i.e. Flash. Fortunately, there is a very dedicated "hacker" group that allows this functionality to be available on the iPad... therefore giving it a better functionality than it otherwise would have. File management and local storage are also available vie these means as well. Of course, you will likely argue back, "you have to take extra steps in hacking the system to allow this... blah, blah, blah." Well, it is what it is.

You stated that the iPad lacks cut and paste. This is not true... I use it all the time without a modified system. And for word processing, I believe that the iOS has very similar options as the Android OS.

To add to my argument and to bash my own choice of product... Was Stevie "right" to only give 256MB of RAM? Was he "right" to not allow expandable storage? Was he "right" to not include USB ports???? Despite its MANY flaws, I do love my iPad.

^ Written by Steve himself I am sure... The ideal size of a tablet is but a matter of opinion. I myself enjoy a larger screen and thus own an iPad. However, you cannot make the statement that the iPad is the "standard" because this makes you sound like a standard fanboy. In case I did not make my direction clear, you sound like an idiot.

I disagree with the "other," Danny.

This Tab is the PERFECT size for guys like me who don't carry purses. I assume that's most of us.

It's big enough to navigate most sites comfortably but not too big where I feel like I'm carrying around a free weight all day.

It's not perfect that's for sure but I've been very impressed with T-Mobie's speedy data connections here in Los Angeles and like they're well priced $39.99 Unlimited Data Plan. Can't wait for more VOIP apps to be made for use over 3G.

I got my T-Mobile Galaxy Tab yesterday and can honestly say I'm enjoying it. I unboxed it and took it to a meeting at an art center. I shot a couple of images of the group which I then instantly posted to Facebook, sorry iPad one day you'll get a camera too. I typed up some quick notes and posted them as an attachment to an email. I've loaded it with tones of apps and customization. When I got home, I listened to some WMA files on it while downloading and installing more apps. I like the Slacker Radio too, it's pretty cool! I watched an episode of Futurama on the internet last night before hitting the hay.

Today I took it out to the park; carrying it in the pocket of my cargo pants. That's NOT something you're going to do with an iPad! I read some Shakespeare and email by the lake and took a picture of the trees to upload to Facebook. I even did a little banking online using Flash. Yes, real Flash in a browser!

This is my first Android devise and overall I'm finding it quite intuitive and pleasant to use. I had tried the iPad and got frustrated by lack of features like cut and past, Flash, local storage, file management and word processing. I guess it's OK if all you want to use it for playing some games, reading a book or some very limited web browsing. But if you want to do any business, need a devise that easily portable or has the flexibility of external storage then get the Galaxy Tab.
