The t509s, obviously an upgrade to the t509, distinguishes itself through its rich plum colour. Other than that, it’s not especially remarkable – VGA camera, which is a bit of a let down in a world where 1.3 megapixels is fast becoming the bare minimum, the same IM support as its flip and sliding brethren, and a measly 7mb (no, that’s no typo, mb) of internal memory, which apparently cannot be expanded. Still, that’s a fair few pictures at VGA resolution.

Let’s face it, none of these phones are going to top the charts for features or – at the risk of sounding unkind – appearance. But they’d make good entry points for people starting with T-Mobile’s MyFaves service, which allows free cross-network calls to five elected numbers (which can be changed each month), whether they prefer candy-bar, flip or slide.
