I was skeptical when my husband bought me this phone. I've had both
Blackberrys and earlier Windows Phones - and those were just phones to
me. They could do more (email, calendar, etc.), but I could never do
what I wanted. This phone does what I want.

Let me tell you what I love about this phone:

Calendar - I have Hotmail. I've hated the fact that I could get
email on my previous phones - but I could never get my friends or my
calendar to sync unless I plugged it into my computer. Now, it
automatically connects over the air (magic!) When I'm at the dentist -
I can enter the boys next appointment, edit it, forward it to my
husband (he gets to take them this time!). Yay Hotmail (finally!)

OneNote - I use OneNote on my computer. I use OneNote on my phone.
I love being able to type up my errands, grocery list, to do list on my
computer and it syncs up automatically on my phone. Type at home, go to
the store, hit "sync" on my phone - and Voila! It takes a fraction of
the time to type stuff on the computer as it would to do it on your
phone. And the coolest part - if I make any changes/edits on my phone -
it syncs back up with the PC. Yay cloud!

Netflix - Hands down - the best "subscription" service we own. We
play it on our Wii, we play it on our Xbox, and now, I can play it on
my phone! It was already installed on my phone (but I know you can
download it for free if it doesn't come on yours). When I typed in my
password, as soon as it connected, I saw my children's Intant Queue of
videos. The boys and I clicked on an episode of Caillou and watched it
while our car was being fixed at the shop. Yay Netflix!

Setup - a breeze! My husband had to set up my previous phones (and
I'm still not sure he did everything right!). This phone - my hotmail
password downloaded my email, friends, and calendar. My facebook
password downloaded my friends (and they merged with my people from my
hotmail!) Yay Setup!

Pictures - I love, love, love the fact that I can take a picture,
and I can either have it automatically sync with my SkyDrive (to save
it), or with Facebook (to post it). And I have full access to all those
pictures I've uploaded (regardless of which cloud I've saved it to).
Yay cloud (again :-)

Bing - Maybe I'm just new to a smartphone that works - but I think
Bing is so cool. Voice search, voice dial, directions, the Web. And it
works! I have yet to stump it when I'm looking for a store, shop, or
address. (I am mad I just bought my husband a Garmin when everything is
built into the phone, sigh!)

Screen - I like how easy it is to navigate from place to place on
the phone. You can customize the tile colors. I chose pink. In a family
with nothing but boys (including my husband) - Pink is the only color
that belongs to me!

It has everything I need on the front of the phone: new messages,
my next calendar event (playdate!), weather status, picture of my
wonderful boys, or notification that I have a new word I have to play
on Scrabble (I'm crushing my husband - 10 games to 3!) Yay Homescreen!

What I wish the phone had:

Movie upload - it takes pretty good movies, and I wish you could
send, share or upload movie directly from the phone. I can still do it
by plugging my phone into my computer - but I wish I could do it
straight from the phone. Hopefully - they'll fix that. But in the
meantime - I can wait!

Voice directions - Bing gives me a map, directions, and a GPS
locator to anywhere I need to go. But I wish it had voice-directions so
I could just put it on my dashboard and listen to it as I'm driving
(or, have it talk into my bluetooth headset - ooooh! :-)

*** P.S. If you will buy this Smartphone I suggest at: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0046RERVQ/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=slashgear.com-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B0046RERVQ

Really a great phone. I've had iphones and android and really thing Windows did an amazing job with the OS. Simple yet extensive and powerful. Right out of the gates, it does need a few improvements... bing maps could use a few updates, but I'm sure this will improve in time. I would seriously look at this phone if you are in the market.

Same here. I have an EVO and I'm going to upgrade to Windows Phone 7 in June. I would get this phone, but it's way too similar to the EVO in almost every way, except for the OS. I'm probably going to get the 7 Pro.

Good article. I agree with HTC HD7 Battery life is mediocre at best and the screen is nice and large but compared to AMOLED screens, its not comparison.

WP7 is awesome and this is coming from an iphone 2g, 3g, 3gs and 4 user. The os with no lag is nice. They really simplified wp7 and moved away from the buggy old os they had before. Kudos to ms.

be warned..the xbox 360 was last console in the race and ms poured their $ into it.....now look! wp7 will be no different.
