Well the N8 is literally choking on Symbian with the measly 680Mhz CPU and 256MB RAM. I wouldn’t want to risk even further with Android on it.

Well. One of Symbian expert, CODeRUS, has showed up and pointed that Symbian^3 source code have been flying around the internet along time ago and this will do nothing just for apps development.

I have an N8 and an Android both running similar hardware (680mhz CPUs anyway). The Android does ok for basic stuff but the browsing is absolutely crippled compared to the Nokia and typing is slow as heck. For all the crap Symbian gets Android is really pretty bad in comparison. Java makes anything slow.

Would be cool as a developer for both platforms though being able to use the one device. Currently I have to carry around a whole heap of phones (the N8 is still my workhorse though). More soon with apps being released on WP7 and iPhone. It would be nice to have one device that could boot to all the operating systems

but the new symbian belle devices like the 701 have 1ghz processor and 512mb of ram, like most of the android phone (nexus s for example which have stock android on it)…maybe hackers/developers will try something, we never know

It will be very laggy and slow on N8 if it is to run Android. Not enough RAM and CPU isn’t going to take much punches. It is best to stay with Symbian

Why? There’s plenty of Android devices with 600 MHz CPUs – I have one (and it doesn’t even have a GPU like the N8 has). I’d love to see Android on the N8, but I think that developing drivers for things such as the camera and the GPU would be really hard.

For better or worse, the crown jewel (overall) of the Symbian line is the N8 and its paltry 680Mhz CPU that works just fine with Symbian would probably struggle with Android.
Other than sheer amount of apps, you wouldn’t gain that much with Android over Symbian anyway IMO, other than less battery life.

Now Meego though…that would be awesome.
