In the mean time, I’d recommend people load SPB mobile shell on their n8′s, gives you 5 home screens and big UI improvements in the meantime. At least you get access to larger widgets and a carousel or grid with shortcuts to access pretty much everything in 3 clicks, takes some off the UI pain off while we wait.

I don’t understand why these improvements were not provided upon the release of the N8. Is Nokia so large that it just takes a long time to implement things? I just bought an N8 and so far am very impressed. I am coming from an E72 and Nexusone.

Having used an HTC Desire and ZTE Blade and compared them to an N8, actually it is apart from bits of the UI.

To be honest Android has nothing really going for it at all. The bits that work appear to have been lifted from the iPhone and the bits that don’t – the por non-gmail e-mail set up, the way it loses links to applications, the one screen dumping ground and lag – are just a mess.

Oh don’t get me wrong – the N8 is a damn good phone. I just find the lack of a portrait QWERTY really annoying.

IPAD2 delayed 2+++ months plus wait times due to low production numbers, so is it now not worth buying?

try looking at this from a more holistic view, Apple proponents do with Apple products.

It’s so sad. I suppose that while the engineers were working on these improvements, their managers were busy deciding whether to sell the future of the company to MS or Google.

I’ve had zero problems with my N8 since PR 1.1 and to be honest had few before. I will say that I really dont want T9 anymore. it isnt the 90s

hard to disagree with fact; not many people waltz into wireless carriers and
buy phones unlocked. There isnt a Nokia presence in the States. You backed
up my points and inserted your opinion (which is cool, I own an iPhone as
well) but i’m not sure what you disagree with…

Not sure I agree with that. I own an N8, an iPhone 3GS and a ZTE Blade. In order of use at the moment they are…

3GS > N8 > Blade

Although the N8 is a much better phone than the 3GS, the 3GS is simply nicer to use day to day. If the new UI rubs off some of the rough edges (keyboards, browser, inconsistencies) then that changes. The Blade, and Android in general, just feels like a poor man’s iPhone.

Hallelujah! You know what, I dont buy ‘too little too late’ excuse. Even if Symbian^4 were here and it was everything that we dreamed it to be, few Americans would have the phones simply because Americans dont buy unlocked, ‘long term’ phones!

Where is Nokia’s marketing/presence in the US? I have at least 4 or 5 people every day ask me what my N8 is and where I got it from and are genuinely impressed with the UI and are curious of how different it is.

Nokia has never subsidized their Flagship phones and has closed their only two Stores in the US!! There is a need for Nokia Televangelism.

People want to be reminded of Nokia. Far to often I hear people reminiscent of their ‘first Nokia’.

Its never too late to turn eager minded people around. Especially when they’re tired of the mobile soup kitchen that are the wireless companies.

True that! I find the Symbian so much better than the Android. Simplicity personified. Agreed that Android is all flashy and has crazy apps, but personally, Symbian forever!
