Motorola almost disappeared in 2009. The company was taken over by the head of the Qualcomm chipsets division and EVERY project that wasn't Android was axed. There wasn't even time to triage who was a good engineer - anyone not working on Android was let go.

If Nokia is too stubborn and keeps pushing a dead operating system, they could die in as little as 2 years.

Symbian is been around since a long time. There are many Symbian users who do not even know that they are carrying a smart phone in their pocket. I know many of would like to see Nokia disappear, but I would like to disagree. Their work with Meego seems good. Meego and Win 7 would be releasing almost together. Which should definitely heat the OS market, the iOS will need to evolve faster than the others. (Since it can not yet do things what Symbian can). Nokia needs to gather all the developers under one roof, as the iTunes, which gives security to the developer also regarding his application not being sold illegally. Symbian is here to stay.

I disagree, think it's predominantly BS and while Symbian isn't great, do we honestly think Nokia as a whole will just disappear.
BB OS isn't great either but they continue to sell in droves.

For the masses here in the US it'll probably flop but it should do decently elsewhere.
The community, with their incessant whining and complaining about Symbian's look and feel, myself included, should contribute their ideas to Symbian, where they'll be heard, considered and added to future releases. A vastly different approach compared to Apple, Palm, RIM or to some extent Google.
