There was a time when I was considering switching to AT&T just to get an iPhone. There was also a time when I was waiting to get a Windows Phone 7. But now with my Galaxy Nexus and unlimited Verizon data plan, I am very satisfied. I've messed around with the iPhone quite a bit and it just feels outdated and boring to me. I've also played with some Windows Phones and they seem too limited - like a step backwards coming from my Windows Mobile 6 phone. The Galaxy Nexus has pretty much everything I want and I can customize it how I want. Sure, it may not be as polished as an iPhone or Windows Phone but I'm confident that most, if not all issues will be resolved in the future with updates from Google.

I agree on the camera, from what I've heard the 4S camera is the best on the market. Animation smoothness highly depends on the device. The iPhone 4S is wickedly smooth, the 4 is very smooth, my iPod Touch 4G lags like you wouldn't believe on iOS 5. When I unlock it, sometimes the slider just stays stuck on the far right side for 15-30 seconds before it will actually open the screen. There are all kinds of times where it just seizes up and lags like crazy. Never happened before iOS 5.

Sadly, the author does not really know iOS as much as he thinks he does. For example, in the 1st 5 minutes he mistakes transcription for Siri, asks Siri a stupid question and does not compare it to searching the web on Android, and then he goes on to say a misinformed comment like "the iPhone uses CPU to power scrolling while Android can use the GPU" whereas the iPhone has always had tight coupling between the OS and CPU/GPU since day one, while Android has finally added ANY kind of hardware scrolling (CPU OR GPU) in Android 3 (yes there have been hardware hooks since Android 1. for games, but the UI was not channelled through the hardware). At that point it became pointless to watch anymore because of the obvious lack of knowledge of the author. If you are looking to decide between iOS and ICS, I recommend reading a comparison by someone who has spent more than one week with an iPhone (and for that matter, more than one week with Android…)

i disagree to both of your points.

When I install a firewall software on my PC does that mean something is wrong with my PC? Not necessarily. Rooting a phone just gives you and the apps to have access to the root aka superuser. If you don't know what that means, perhaps Linux 101 will get you right on that. Having root access extends what you can do with the phone's OS such as installing a firewall, overclock the cpu among other great things.

Custom Android ROMs can change the UI to as polish as your photoshop skills can take you. Look into the MIUI ROM. I practically switch my UI between themes almost every week because I get bored looking at the same UI all the time.

It's a good thing someone is spending money on innovation or all the phones would still look like blackberries.

What's funny/sad is now Apple has gotten wise to copycatting and is letting Android figure out how to get the power profile down on the LTE chipsets they were so eager to get on board with. Competition suffers in these situations, with all camps doing "just enough" to stay ahead of the other. Historically, Microsoft is the only other major player with fresh ideas (though as WinMo 8 plans show, they know they have a lot of problems), and RIM is dead. So I wouldn't get too cheerful about competition yet. It could be a relatively dark few years after the smoke clears.

I returned that one since it had a German T-Mobile splash screen and got another one. This one came with Spanish language set when turend on but without any carrier Splash screen. I updated it and also added the ATT APN and have either 3G or H and it is pretty fast....So you are right, the first one went back and the second one is working just fine.

The Nexus is a far different beast from android phones of the past. I've always been an android fan, but I certainly recognized that many things that iOS offered that android lacked. With ICS on the Nexus, most of the things that were advantages on iOS have been nearly eliminated, and all of the things that were advantages with previous versions of android are even better now. The two very minor places where iOS still shines in my opinion are animation smoothness, and the camera.

I disagree with your statement 'if you really have to root, something is wrong with the phone.' I find ICS to be everything I want and need from a phone, however I rooted within a month, and preceded to flash a custom rom, kernel, baseband and design my own boot animation. Stock ICS is amazing, but when you root, the customization is endless, and many people with iPhones are constantly wanting to see all the features of my phone that I can customize. It is, after all, my phone, so I want it to be different to everyone else's!

I've had an iPod Touch for years, currently a 4th generation running iOS 5. I've always preferred Android for my phone, but there have been MANY times where it was just easier or more fun to use iOS. It may be a little more limited, but I always thought iOS was a platform I couldn't live without. Thursday, I got my Galaxy Nexus delivered. Aside from music in the car, I haven't touched my iPod since. In terms of looks, functionality and every measurable way, ICS and the Nexus absolutely destroys iOS. I never thought an Android update could feel like a completely new OS and seem so much more advanced, but it really does. My iPod seems washed out, laggy and outdated, even the brand new iOS 5 just feels like an OS from the mid 1990's compared to ICS. This is not a "fanboy" rant, I have always preferred iOS for games and media consumption, but that officially changed last week. I still like iOS for music and exclusive apps, but for everything else, my Nexus has stolen my heart.
