SwannOne sees Swann make wireless smart home play

Another day, another smart home hub, and this time it's Swann Security wading in with the SwannOne. Another attempt to pull together the disparate parts of DIY home automation into a single box, SwannOne kicks off with a wireless video camera that can feed video to a smartphone or into the cloud, but will eventually support lights, locks, and professional remote monitoring.

The hub itself includes WiFi and ZigBee for wireless connectivity, though Swann is holding most details about the hardware close to its chest.

As for the SwannOne SoundView Camera, that will connect over WiFi and support HD video streaming and night vision, along with motion and sound detection. Swann will optionally offer cloud-based storage, too, though you'll also be able to view video through the SwannOne app.

Other options will include the necessary door, window, and motion sensors for a home alarm system, energy management, and remote control over appliances. There'll be a range of starter kits, as well as individual components sold piecemeal – however, right now it's unclear if SwannOne will also work with third-party devices, like Nest thermostats or Philips hue bulbs.

Everything is designed to be wirelessly connected as well as non-permanently installed, with the sort of rules-based macros we've seen from other platforms.

No word on pricing or specific availability at this stage, nor whether SwannOne will require an ongoing service fee.
