Surface drives nearly billion dollar revenue for Microsoft in Q1

This quarter is a rather good one for Microsoft's Surface tablet lineup, that's for certain. Their financial crew reported Microsoft Financial 2015 Q1 results today, showing the Surface Pro 3 to have driven Surface revenue up to $908 million for the quarter. Microsoft's Devices and Consumer revenue grew 47% to $10.96 billion overall, while total Xbox console sales were 2.4 million, growing a cool 102%. Xbox One also launched in 28 new markets in these past three quarters alone.

This quarter also had Microsoft bringing in big phone hardware revenue at $2.6 billion USD. The company suggests that they'll be working with an "ongoing focus on execution discipline."

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella suggested that the company was "innovating faster, engaging more deeply across the industry, and putting our customers at the center of everything we do, all of which positions Microsoft for future growth." Nadella continued, saying that their teams are "delivering on our core focus of reinventing productivity and creating platforms that empower every individual and organization."

This quarter brought in a GAAP revenue of $23.2 billion USD, while last year's reported GAAP revenue rang in at $18.5 billion.

While GAAP revenue went up, Microsoft's GAAP Operating Income went down, from $6.3 billion last year at this time to $5.8 billion this most recent quarter.

While Kevin Turner, chief operating officer of Microsoft suggests that "customers are embracing our latest technologies from Surface Pro 3 and Office 365 to Azure and SQL Server," it's clear that Xbox and Surface Pro 3 are stand-out heroes in the company's most recent earnings report.

Commercial revenue, meanwhile, crew 10% to $12.28 billion. This includes Windows volume licensing revenue increasing 10%, Office Commercial products and services revenue growing 5%, and server products and services revenue grew 13%.

Commercial cloud revenue grew 128% with Microsoft citing success as based in Office 365, Dynamics CRM, and Azure.
