All you have to do is look at server 2012 which includes the new hyper visor for virtualization to see that Microsoft is changing the game. They even completely destroy the vmware 5 statistics side by side when comparing. The features are flat out amazing. New file system, new powershell, shared nothing ( no need for shared storage anymore with this feature). This also allows the mom and pop shops to run virtualization for their infrastructure that could previously not afford it on vmware.

Best i can tell, Apple's presence in media work can be seen as something of an aberration. I suspect it comes down to force of habit, the the eventual professors starting out on early Macs and so recommending/demanding that their students use the same.
Agree that it is now Ms that is pushing the tablet envelop by merging its mobile and desktop ecosystems. Apple is sticking with keeping its device categories in their lanes and not letting horizontal functionality between the desktop OS and mobile OS.

The Surface Keyboard is nice and functions well. However, I do not think MS has hit the mark just yet. Innovation and more daring moves yes, but execution - No.

Apple's recent execution has been poor as well - Siri and Maps are examples of step backwards in user experience. They have kept its devices contained within the confines of its supply chain planning thanks to Tim Cook. Jobs would use Cook to stretch his limitations and do things like buy out the supply of touch panel displays before the competition can. Perhaps, with Jbs still around, there would have been an ultra thin iPad Mini with Retina Display.

At this time, Cook has done a Greta job of expanding Apple's supply chain to grow their ecosystem globally, but the constant onslaught of new Android builds and devices will create market share that Apple cannot fill with ONE flagship iPhone 5 and outdated iPhone 4 &4s models. Apple needs to expand its phone offering in order to keep up or phones like the HTC DNa, Galaxy Note and upcoming Windows phones continue to chip away at the excitement over iPhones.

I am an Apple guy, and I bugs me to say, but I agree with Woz. Apple has clearly abandoned cutting edge products in favor of mass-market appeal. Just take the Mac - they no longer produce servers (sorry, Mac Mini, no offense), the "flagship" MacPro line has not been updated in years, and OSX has remained largely the same for over a decade. And what if you want a monitor other than 27 inches??

Where Apple use to keep you guessing what's next, they are now very predictable. Predictable about as far away as you can get from innovative.
