Oh, I didn’t realize that. But he still blatantly stated that he was happy being a pirate and stealing others ideas and squashing them. He tried to buy out DropBox and then stated he was going to basically crush DropBox when Drew Houston rejected Job’s offer.

Again, Jobs had great insight and vision…original? NO! He just takes things that already exist and re-packages them so they are “cool, pretty, hip, exciting, etc.” in order to sell.

Jobs was NEVER a great inventor or innovator in any sense of the word. He was a GREAT salesman, pitchman, marketer and designer.

As I recall, he only stopped flying the Jolly Roger when Apple started making headway in the IT sector as a “reputable” company.

Was Jobs great? I don’t think that’s up for debate since he was. Was he a PRICK? Yeah, he was that too…but in the business world, you definitely won’t get far by being someone else’s doormat.

None of these “negatives” should shock the more conscientious and open-minded individual that can actually process the logical reasoning and motives behind the actions. However, I’m sure the FANBOIs will all claim that their ALMIGHTY is infallible.

The easiest way to keep someone from copying you is to come up with something that has never been thought of. That the other guy CAN’T copy.
I understand you have to protect your intellectual property, but whatever happened to just flat-out winning? Can you imagine if Jordan had went around trying to copyright his dunks and suing anybody who used them - instead of beating and humiliating any team that opposed him?
Seriously, Jobs actually said he would spend every cent of Apple’s 40 billion to destroy Android?
What is there even to argue about? This guy was loony as a jaybird..
You’d rather spend your fortune trying to trip a guy instead of outrunning him?
I could care less what kind of phone another person uses. I’m not a fanboy or fandroid or whatever. I just think it’s hilarious how all these companies are investing so much time and effort into destroying each other rather than innovating.

Excuse me for being ignorant, but isn’t the scrollable alert bar at the top of the screen an android feature?
The iPhone, iPhone 2 and iPhone 3GS lacked that.
Not sure about 4, cuz I didn’t see anyone using it, but android phones had that all the way from android 1.0

you mean that LG prada phone? I had that one. The screen was like resistive touch screen and with no multitouch. Really hard to use. Only got it cuz at that time, it was like the best looking phone on the market. BUT PLEASE DON’T COMPARE THAT USER EXPERIENCE TO IPHONE

exactly, the really first Android prototype (never been sold) still had the full qwerty keypad just like the blackberrys. Then after the iPhone was out, they changed the design to having qwerty keyboard under the slide screen. Now they’ve just all ditched the qwerty?

you do realize Eric Schmidt was in Apple’s Boards during 2006-2009?
in 2007, Apple introduced their first iPhone.
Then soon after that Google launched their Android.
iPhone started their AppStore.
Google had a marketplace.

Jobs was still at Apple when they squashed Unitron in Brazil, right? If so this ‘tude of his shows why he got forced out. It would have been far better to have sold Unitron a license to manufacture the Mac in Brazil, plus it would have gained Apple the resources of Unitron’s engineers and designers AND locked up a huge market that was already “in love” with Apple through a jillion clones of the apple ][ line. But nope, couldn’t do that, had to kill a golden egg laying goose and even threatening to get the US government into the affray. So Apple tossed the Brazilian (and rest of the South American market) to the PC clones.

Until 1992, Brazil didn’t allow imports of computers and many other electronic items. That was to protect their home grown electronics industry. Clever companies would find ways around such protections. Apple just had a snit fit over it.

Jobs cracked when Android phones surpassed iPhone sales, after only two years on the market for Android. That kicked iPhone down to number 3 with Blackberry still number 1 in total sales. ‘Course RIM had crackberries years before the iPhone came along.

The entire tech industry builds on the concept of taking existing inventions and designs, and improve them. IN FACT, that is a cornerstone of our entire civilization. Apple does that, like everyone else.

i can understand the issue for the design no one wants their look stolen but as far as features thats going to be universal these become standards. yes someone comes and changes the game. apple didn’t invent multitouch they just bought the company that did and put it in their device first if they didn’t someone else would have and we be bitching about them i think every device whether HTC Motorola LG samsung or apple should have the own look and feel but should be able to do function the same this is what becomes the standard. its competition if you cant do what the competitor does you lose and if you can you stay in the race so just how android had a pull down notification well now apple has one whatever just don’t act like apple the first with it but this will now become the standard
people like variety or a better word would be CHOICE!!!

Gotta admit, f the Blackberry had never been released by RiM, the iPhone wouldn’t be anything like it is today, as it wouldn’t have much in the way of e-mail support. So, I guess RiM was Apple’s gift (FIFY) to Apple fans. It is to obvious that Apple was inspired by Blackberries that they wanted to copy what they could do.

There’s more than one angle to this. :)

Not surprising…he’s a hypocrite. When he used to lead Apple (before being ousted by the “then board of Apple directors” and before he came up with NeXT), that company used to blatantly fly the Jolly Roger pirate flag outside their office. The GUI was also stolen from Xerox. (Of course, Microsoft went on and stole it from Apple.) But what he’s done isn’t original. However, he was a great salesman, pitchman, marketer and designer.

A lot of ideas come from various places. Apple and Steve were brilliant at bringing existing high-end technology into the mainstream. With out them, many things would be very different. However, that doesn’t make them the inventors of all. Sadly they weren’t, but they could at least sell them, and sell them hard!

i have to admit when you started talking about little updates without really any improvement, i thought you were talking about apple. to me, its all about the user experience & being able to quickly & easily get work done. unfortunatley i found out the hard way that iphones are just too simplistic & unable to do most of what i need. being able to log on to my purveyors website & place orders at work while on the go for example is just not possible with the limited features & abilities of an iphone. iphone works simply because it a simple device for casual users,, it is perfect for people like grandmas. sure android expects people to have some intelligence, but, my 9 year old son has my old thunderbolt & while it is set to not allow calls, he can use everything else including wifi & browsing. not once did i ever show him how to use it & he has taken to it like a duck to water. if a 9 year old can have no problems operating android then i question your assumptions that people need to read instructions on how to use it. as an adult, i would be ashamed to use the argument that android is too complicated for me.

i get the impression that you think iphone was the first of its type. in reality we can thank LG for being the first to introduce touchscreen smartphones in the form factor & functions as we know them today. LG released their smartphone to the world about 4 months before apple released iphone to just the USA.
