This is a great talk for many reasons. Steve Jobs not only shared many bits of vision with many others, but he largely assembled a larger vision and then built a company to deliver many of those ideas into extremely well designed and executed products.

It’s not too hard to understand that in contrast to the leadership of many other companies in the information technology space, Jobs had a better run than any of them — measured in many ways.

If you listen to this talk — you will hear a man who is inspiring in terms of how sure he is both wanting to invent and then realize these ideas. Contrast his attitude and enthusiasm to most people in life:

You can be snippy about a visionary like Steve Jobs, or you can get inspired by him — it’s your choice.

“Steve” didn’t predict anything, he extrapolated information. No one can point to any product made by Apple that wasn’t either made before or accurately depicted in some form or another before Jobs miraculously invented it. Tablets? Please. Smart phones? Again, long before he was in diapers. Portable computers? Lots of them before Jobs even knew what a computer was.

Okay, to be fair, your take on the objective world seems accurate enough; your error lay in failing to reconsider your initial take on pepee63′s post as something other than reflective sarcasm. Many of Steve’s predictions were right because this is the way he wanted computing to be, and he helped make it so. Ordinary people have visions of the future, extraordinary people have the drive and talent to make their dreams a reality.

All Jobs did was predict dates, and hardly specific ones. Saying Apple was working towards a book type computer device was an idea created long long before this interview. First laptop described as a book happened in 1968 to be exact.

As previously mentioned by others, the concept of wireless computing also existed well before this interview so again, he just roughly picked dates. Saying Jobs was ‘spot on’ is quite the stretch.

Sorry but star trek in the 60s had tablets, mobile phones (comunicator), wireless networking, not to mention starwars and holograms and other things… Im thousands of people came up with that idea… sure what are we thinking of now that we’ll have in 20 years… roll up tv’s, holographic tv’s (maybe) and god knows what….. Hi @ssclown. Trust your senses over your judgement. In this case, use your eyes. They will provide the information necessary to determine that this tape was not produced, recorded, or controlled by Apple in any way, shape, or form. You’re wrong about Steve being God, but I’m sure that doesn’t surprise you. No doubt you spend your life emotionally reacting to your ungrounded perception of reality – resulting in you being wrong more often than right.

Forgive the blasphemy, but regarding voice recognition, wireless networking, office networking, computers in books.. weren’t all futurologists saying the same thing at the time? I seem to remember they were. Also, they expected robots to be commonplace in the future.
The only thing new that Stevie said compared to the others was about the music distribution model changing. Also, the article forgot to list what he got wrong. There must have been something. I refuse to listen to 54:23 minutes of sermonising just to check it.
