Actually in one aspect it is definitely the Valve’s fault, they
shouldn’t store credit card info (even when encrypted) with everything
else, it should be totally seperate, that is a pretty basic mistake.

Just what the hell is CC info doing linked to, or in anyway related to, forum info?

Most (sensible) people will have separate email, user-id and passwords for the forums, precisely because it is likely to be less secure than the steam platform itself. And we’d better not find out that they “remembered” CC details we told them to forget after purchase.

Very shoddy and I agree with other posters; the least we could have expected is an email notification.

If you had experience I’n business you would know that people are always trying hack big companies. It happens I’n the 100s a day just for one company. Also fixing something like this takes a good amount of time and they already had people preparing for things like this.

They don’t care about security because all they care about is profit? Are you retarded, anyone who knows anything about cyber security knows it is impossible to be 100% secure, and since when is profitability and internal security two mutually exclusive topics, you clearly have no idea what your talking about.

So basically you’re saying that it’s the company”s fault, not the hackers fault, that the hackers hacked the forums. This has nothing to do with the resources they put forth for security or their care for anyone’s well being. After they’re done locking up all the malicious pricks they should chain you up right next to them.

It just shows you these companies care less about security and just profits and they aren’t at risk, you the customer is at risk from identify theft, credit card fraud, phishing, attacks and much more, Very sad that you couldn’t hire someone to fix or resolve your problems.

No he is right I received no notification either because I disable news/announcements in Steam. They should of sent out an email as well common.. multiple ways of communication the user if they have the info why don’t they use it.

I’m really angry about this. I had to find out from other sites, I got no notification either through steam or via email. What gets me is how they collected my CC info even when I selected not to have it remembered. Valve seem to have a problem with security, which is ironic considering their business model is based on DRM.
