I have to drive for an hour to get to my day job, and it’s not an interesting drive.  Most of it is on the motorway, with the monotonous scenery doing a very good job of lulling me off to sleep.  Sometimes I rest my head against the steering wheel and let the ruts in the road guide me, but I’m always getting woken up by the police after I’ve forced another driver off the road.  It’s a frustrating situation, as interrupted sleep makes me cranky.  Well, Maplin Electronics have obviously decided that I ought to stay awake until I at least get to my desk, hence the Drive Alert Master.

Drive Alert Master

Fitting over your ear like a Bluetooth headset, the magic box contains an adjustable tilt sensor that monitors the orientation of your head and buzzes should it drop down in a typical “falling asleep” posture.  It is apparently “designed for long journeys in mind”, as opposed to those very short trips when you only have time for a power-nap.

Available right now this very minute, the price they put on road safety is £4.99 ($9.51).
