Star Wars: TFA Monopoly has no Rey

This week it's becoming apparent that the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Monopoly game just isn't up to snuff. This first edition was released all the way back in September, but it didn't become apparent until now, after most Star Wars fans have seen the film, that the game's contents aren't in line with the film. In particular, the game's four board avatars. They consist of Return of the Jedi Luke and Return of the Jedi Darth Vader – which is fine. They also consist of Kylo Ren and Finn (or FN-2187, if you prefer). This game does not contain the main character of the film: Rey.

This could be fine. It WOULD be fine, if it weren't for Hasbro's statement on the matter. In their defense – after this story went viral earlier this week – Hasbro offered the following statement.

"The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie's release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance." – Hasbro Representative

Rey is the main character of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Disney and Lucasfilm have not even one single time made any effort to hide this. The film's main poster makes this abundantly clear.

One point in Hasbro's favor is the fact that this is Star Wars Monopoly, including bits from the entire film series – not just The Force Awakens. It makes sense, then, that Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker (both from Return of the Jedi) are included.

We're going to go ahead and assume that the Rey game piece is going to be released in a new edition of the game in the future. Cross your fingers. This shouldn't be something we have to cross our fingers about in the first place.
