The SWGEmu team has just announced that they will be going through with plans to launch a fully playable beta test server for the new Star Wars Galaxies Emulation Project. This beta test will take place sometime in the first quarter of 2009. The announcement was made on the team’s message board just yesterday.

What a good bit of Christmas news, we could have only hoped that it would be launched that day instead of just announced. The team confirmed that this will be running on their official server called Sun Crusher, which is an allusion to a weapon in the Star Wars universe.

In addition to this single server, the SWGEmu team states that they are allowing fan-provided servers to tap into and support this project. However the team has a set of rules and guidelines as far as capacity, bandwidth and all that goes with it. In order to help the project, people running “fan servers” must adhere to the strict guidelines.

Looks like I am first to comment… woot!

Seriously though, the SWGEmu project has really come a long way. If you are interested in trying the Emu, just head to http://www.swgemu.com/forums/index.php and create an account on the forums. The only requirement is a legal copy of SWG, as piracy and pirated copies of the game files are not tolerated at all.

Return to a galaxy far.far away… and relive your dreams again.
