Star Wars Battlefront Death Star DLC just made the game a must-have

We've been getting a lot of news coming in from Gamescom, but if a Metal Gear game centered around zombies doesn't sound like your cup of tea, maybe Star Wars can help. Electronic Arts has detailed a new Battlefront game mode called Battle Station, which will arrive with the game's incoming Death Star DLC. Despite the game's rather sparse offerings at launch, it sounds like Battle Station might make returning to Battlefront well worth it for a lot of players.

Battle Station centers around the Rebels' mission to destroy the Death Star, and battles will play out over three different phases. In the first, Rebel players will pilot X-Wings and A-Wings as they try to thin out the number of TIE Fighters and TIE Interceptors, opening the way for Y-Wings to come in and perform bombing runs on a Star Destroyer. Imperial players will be assisted by AI pilots in their fight against the Rebels, and once this phase is complete, the battle moves inside the Death Star itself.

In phase two of the battle, Rebel players are tasked with extracting a priority droid from the space station and Imperial players need to fight them off. Here's where Death Star's new hero characters will be making their first appearance in Battle Station, as players will be given the opportunity to roam the Death Star as either Chewbacca or the bounty hunter Bossk, depending on their allegiance.

Finally, the third phase of the battle will once again move into space, as the Rebel Alliance attempts to destroy the Death Star. Luke Skywalker and his X-Wing from A New Hope will be available for Rebel players, while Imperial players get to assume the mantle of Darth Vader.

Perhaps we'll be treated to the iconic Death Star trench run? It sure sounds like it, and one thing is definitely for sure: if players get the chance to play through the Death Star trench run with this new DLC, it'll become a must-buy for a lot of people.

What's more encouraging is that Battle Station is presumably only one part of the larger Death Star DLC, so this could shape up to be a pretty significant pack. We'll get the chance to find out just how much content Death Star will add to Battlefront soon, as it's due out in September for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
