Star Trek: TNG Season 1 Blu-ray available July 24th

Paramount released a sample Blu-ray containing three Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes a few months ago, and it seems to have gone down well with Trek fans. As a result, the first season of Star Trek: TNG will be coming to Blu-ray on July 24th, just in time for the 25th anniversary of the show. The set will feature six discs, 1080p video, and 7.1 DTS-HD MA audio, plus a host of bonus features.

As was done with the original Star Trek series Blu-rays, the team has gone back to the original film elements and performed a new transfer of the material shot on film. As for the special effects, originally rendered at a low resolution and at a different frame rate, they've been revamped so as not to clash with the shiny new transfer.

No word yet on price, but the original Star Trek Blu-rays retailed for around $130 per season, quickly dropping. The sampler disc is still available from Amazon for around $15 if you want to check that out, and The HD Room also has plenty of 1080p screen captures for you to salivate over, showing both the original footage and new CGI.
