Women definitely like tech stuff too, and politics. More and more every day. And we are aware that we're needed, and "wanted" and we are hearing our dads and our brothers tell us to stop whining and join those fields...but those same dads and brothers are working in these fields, and are the very same people making this an impossible environment to succeed in, or at the very least, be taken seriously in. Woman runs for office- news does a piece where experts weigh in on whether or not she's had botox injections. There's a man/pervert at my lowly retail job who I work with, doing the same shit, selling Pandora jewelry, and he expects me to refill his coffee...every day. I refuse all the time, feel bad, give in, and refill his fucking coffee. I think females are conditioned to be pushovers and when we don't want to be pushovers we're manhaters. It's confusing and frustrating...

While I agree with some of your points, I do think in our politically sensitive world, we deny some obvious truths. I think of the Anne of Green Gables book series, where in a later book, Leslie stops hating her beauty and is glad for it because it's a gift she can give the man she loves. A woman's beauty has a legitimate objectified role which is separate from person hood. Just look at marketing where it's known that a beautiful woman can be used to sell to women just as well as men. It's not true for men though... While it's great that people are finally acknowledging that it's inappropriate to treat a women solely as an object, we''re never going to achieve full rationality on this issue until we get past the politically correct tendencies currently in play. Denying that there can be an objective value to beauty is just as incorrect (though at least it's not quite so bigoted) as denying womens personhood was.

"If there is a rule to being offensive, it’s this: you can say whatever you like, as long as it’s funny."

This truth is eroding fast. As soon as you get quoted, or videotaped selectively, the funny context is gone and all that remains is an indelible record of offensiveness. People who are at danger of being in the media eye (which increasingly means "everyone") need to start learning to adjust.

I wish there more women in engineering fields. Period. Absolutely no reason women shouldn't be encouraged equally to explore math and science related fields. My wife is working towards a bachelors in mechanical engineering and I could not be more proud of her. She usually stomps the boys and ends up with top grade in the class.
