Comments on: Sprint Stops Android Froyo Update to Samsung Epic 4G

Downloaded the new update 3 weeks ago and TOTALLY screwed up my phone! After numerous calls to Sprint and 2 trips to Sprint store, finally got a replacement phone (albeit a refurb). It has the original software on it, but every 5 minutes I get a message saying an update is available. I DO NOT WANT THE UPDATE!!!

Does anyone know how to stop receiving these messages to update? I called Sprint, but they told me I will continue to receive the updates because the phone senses my software is out of date.

I feel I should have the option to update or not to update!!!

I just installed Friday bcz i didnt know there was a problem. the new install totally messed up my phone. I had to take it to Sprint Saturday where they claimed to fix it. Nope. so went back Monday & now they say they have to order me a new phone bcz the program was corrupted. wth. Now my “search” button clicks on repeatedly by itself, so it interrupts any texts & online usage. Sucks. I’m not happy at all. My phone worked perfect before this. i wish i wouldve known.

At what point does Samsung and Sprint face a class action lawsuit for false claims they made about the Epic 4G when it was rolled out? Flash still doesn’t work, how many times have they lied about updating to Android 2.2? Unless they face a mammoth lawsuit that forces them to do the upgrade or replace with newer phones that are fully functional, I doubt we will ever see 2.2, let alone 2.3.

2.3 is here, just not for any of the Galaxy S phones. Samsung is putting it on their newest non-Galaxy phones, like the Continuum. Interestingly enough, 2.2 is on the Galaxy phones in Europe, but they may not have the TouchWiz interface that Samsung seems dead set on insuring that everyone here has. Wonder if there’s a correlation…

In other news, Samsung is talking up their forthcoming “Galaxy II” lines. I wonder where that will leave those of us who have the current Galaxy phones like the Epic 4G? I’m sure they’d be happy to sell us one of those at full price (since we’re still in the contracts we signed when we got the current Galaxy phones)

This is ridiculous. The EPIC should have had 2.2 when it was launched like the EVO. Sprint and Samsung should be ashamed. This “promise” has been going since last year. Now it’s now March. By the time 2.2 gets out 2.3 will be here and what a year for that too? If it goes past March Im switching HTC.

They are too friggin busy getting new crap on the market and abandoning the customer base that is already out there. Heck they got my money, the sad part is that I got 2 of them.

hey! i dont know if any of u got this problem , but i was trying to uddate to 2.2 (froyo) from the samsung page with the program they give you and when the phone was downloading the firmware 2.2 the download stop at 24% for 20 min, i was worried about it, and i unplugged the phone from the pc!! now my phone doesnt work n when i press the power appears a icon like a phone next to a computer… and when i try to plug my phone again to the pc it doesnt recognize it anymore so i dont know what to do now :(
anyone can help me?

But hearing all about this, really makes me wonder what these folks are doing. Is the Galaxy S really all THAT different from the other phones that there’d be this much of a problem? I’m thinkin’ I’m gonna take advantage of my 30-day guarantee and go over to Verizon’s T-Bolt…

Well all I know is my son and I got both our phones on wed and he updated his in the store. I, however, did not and have been trying to do so since yesterday and my phone says it is already up to date (and has 2.1)…. I guess I should be grateful if its wrecking phones.

Lol funny my phone works faster than EVER! User error/phone overloaded in the firs place much? Be glad you don’t have tmobile..they aren’t getting ota updates because tmobile doesn’t want to take responsibility if something “messes up.”

This update sucks! Everything is working so slow, the new look is stupid, and it wiped out my alarm clock, making me late for work today. F/U Sprint. I have been with you for over 10 years, and once again, you taunt me and call me a stupid Bit^% for staying with you. Maybe I should switch to a carrier that completely checks their product before unloading it on customers.

I hear ya Nate….and i understand how you feel…reading Sprint’s comments it would seem to me they are already getting geared up for damage control…the official comments are pretty lame and I sure get the pissed off part of it all…ya know, Sammy broke new ground releasing the Galaxy S line all over the world to all major carriers at the same damn time…no small thing there…but they have had 6 months now to update a phone that was behind the curve on software the day of release and yet again a bogus support effort…Sprint is a decent carrier and I am sure they are embarrassed and will hold Sammy to the fire…it’s just a shame to screw hardware with such potential….

FWIW…your IPhone has several Samsung components in it…I wish HTC had been able to work the original deal on the EVO with Samsung on the Super AMOLED 4.3 inch screen, I would have went that route and never looked back…I still might get an EVO anyway and post a video on youtube dropping one of my Epics in a blender.

it’s cool…you will still have 2.2…but my understanding is it will be clean install…I have 2 epics…one is updated OTA with 2.2 EB13 and running fine for now…and the other never received the update and is still running 2.1 DI18

ok…i did some digging and as of 2 1/2 hours ago this info has been OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED and it’s bad news for those that are waiting for OTA update…it is in fact suspended…for real…

I suppose i will have to retract my rather snide earlier comments…here is the word from Sprint themselves below:

hey coco…sprint is saying that in a few cases a hard reset is going to be required…which means it will wipe your phone…so back it up and sync with google and go for the hard reset…it seems to fix several of the minor issues some folks have reported to have after updating OTA to 2.2

I did the update, yesterday. My data connectivity is fine. The only issue that I’m having is with the speed of my phone. Since the update its been extremely slow in response to anything i do.
