You know…if these f—–g cell carriers would just provide good service maybe they wouldn’t have to lock customers into contracts and constantly find ways to prevent them from using the devices on other carriers. WHAT a concept!

I’m getting really fed up with the tone of these stories. I must have twenty five different news sources on my screen right now acting like this is the end of the world and a huge renege on Sprint’s part. Every single one of these stories leads with your “Apple giveth and Sprint taketh away” angle.

That may fly with your Apple fanboy base, but for anyone with a brain and the commons sense to read beyond the hype, this is not news. Sprint said from the outset that they were going to lock the sim, so please, dispense with the whining. You sound like a bunch of crybabies.

That is exactly why Sprint locked it they are in debt over the large purchase promise to Apple for the iPhone, what better way to make some of their money back. If the Sim is locked, you are forced, to use their network while traveling out of country, and they can charge you out the A** for it

I dont know why these carriers are so damn desperate to lock the handsets. They have the subscribers’ ssn to mess with if the subscriber ever refuses to honor the contract! Or at least give long term subscribers a benefit of unlocked phones as a loyalty bonus! (Sprint should hire me if they want more marketing/sales tips :D)

I’d think its in Sprint’s best interests to leave the GSM unlocked, and be in the subscriber’s good books, especially with Sprint’s 3G speeds giving AT&T’s EDGE/2G speeds a run for its money !

No I disagree 1stkorean. This forces people to stay with Sprint and that’s what Sprint wants. Personally I cannot imagine anyone wanting to be on Sprints network. They have just spent so much on advertising and NASCAR that they should have been spending it upgrading their network.

One would think as badly as Sprint needs customers and money they would not do stupid things like this. It’s going to hurt them and it should.
