Netbook buyers with no loyalty to the traditional big-brand names now have another option, in the shape of Sotec’s DC101.  Using a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 display, Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom processor and a 120GB hard-drive, the DC101 is yet another case of netbook-by-numbers; there’s not even built-in 3G WWAN to make things interesting.

The DC101 will ship with 1GB of RAM, WiFi and ethernet (no Bluetooth), a multiformat memory card reader (SD/MS/MMC) and 1.3-megapixel webcam.  Ports include the usual three USB 2.0 and VGA out, and the whole thing measures 265 × 185 × 31mm and weighs 1.2kg.  OS is Windows XP.  It will be priced at 59,800 yen (around $550).

Does anybody else think that the DC101 looks quite a lot like the Sony VAIO TZ?  Yes, the Sotec’s hinge is quite Eee-like, but the overall style reminds me of the Sony ultraportable.  Slap a VAIO logo on it and it could almost be the company’s upcoming netbook
