Ian has a valid point. At the time that many early adopters purchased the device, the Playstation 3 was labeled specifically as an entertainment computer system. The "OtherOS" feature irrespectively supported the fact that the PS3 was indeed intended to be exactly that.

Regardless of how many people bought the machine partially or fully for this purpose, the fact that the feature was removed, when a customer-base may have actually bought the system for this reason have a valid argument that Sony Computer Entertainment (and their parent company) have intentionally "crippled" the product, having used misfeasance and/or malfeasance in the process to justify their means. It doesn't matter if only a thousand, a hundred, a dozen or just one person is affected. The argument made by Ian is valid.

It was in the mainstream. In fact, it was shown widely on G4TV as well as Gawker and AOL Media sites because of Sony's denial of the problem as it was happening. Your faulty logic implying that it might not have been in mainstream news making it not happen is equally false.

Quite a bit of fanboy talk. I've had problems with BOTH XBox and PS3s.

XBox: 1 RRoD (They gave me a slim, and no problems since!)
PS3: 2 "Yellow Lights of Death", 1 Blu-Ray Burn-Out. (Out of pocket expense on the yellow lights, and personally replaced the burnout.)

Ironically, the only gaming platforms that went flawless for me are my cellphone, my computers, my PSP and DS and the Wii.

Both the PS3 AND X360 have had their share of flaws.

Because it was a feature that was SOLD to those who bought original PS3s. It is contestable that Sony *IS* under obligation to keep a feature within the system. A lawsuit that still has time to be filed, even.) Your ad-hominems and false accusations of everyone who uses the "OtherOS" as as means to "hack" (calling them "hackers") is equally false.

Which makes me wonder, "How old are you, son?"

A feature removed, for any reason at all, is still removing an intended purpose of the product; one that a consumer may have wanted there in the first place. While people who bought the console later might have no argument, those who bought the original consoles with the "Other OS" feature enabled have a valid argument; irrespective of what Sony states as it's reason.

It is akin to removing the "Air Conditioning" feature in your car later because of whatever conjured up reason and not giving a valid replacement to using that feature; even as the hardware for the potential remains there. It might be a minority of people, but it doesn't make it any less valid.

Now you're using chicanery along with a false dichotomy.

1. Microsoft did in fact admit their defects after doing research from customer complaints.
2. Microsoft implemented changes to their policies and hardware design.

Your sophistry also fails to note the similarities of the "Yellow Light of Death", and the "Blu-Ray Burnout" problems which also plague the Sony PS3.

You're dry snitching on yourself as a fanboy. As an owner of BOTH SYSTEMS, I know they both have hardware defect issue histories. However, unlike a "fanboy", I am able to notice when one falters more than the other. In this case, Sony has more problems than what you purport.

But still a .1% (theoretical) that bought it for the original advertised purpose.

I don't use a PS3 for a "Linux Box" (Then again, it's been collecting dust for a while now), but to rid the system of one of the original intended purposes of the device is a pretty shady practice; irrespective of their reasons or your sophistry.

It's interesting how Anonymous was blamed and accusers call them "thieves". There are thousands of hacking groups around the U.S., ONLY. I don't know worldwide though.

It seems to me the actual guilty party deliberately blamed Anonymous to cover their own ass. The guilty party had a "sophisticated" plan and it is obvious they understand the hacking world, and most likely were aware of Anonymou's unfortunate history. So what did they do? They planned the attack and blamed it on a previously known group of hackers: Anonymous. I mean, I probably would have done something similar too.

Yes, Anonymous has a history of deliberate attacks but they have been honest about it. They have, really. Call me naive, but they seem honest when they denied the claims and am confident they didn't do it. I am damn well sure Anonymous had zero participation in this act.

No, I am not affiliated or related to Anonymous and am not a Sony consumer (I'm a Microsoft boy).

Just my two cents.
