OK, so he didn’t make a statement quite that dumb, but you have to hand it to the guy running Computer Entertainment division; he sure knows how to make Sony look like a group of stuck-up morons. When asked if Sony’s competitors - you know, the one with the year-long head start and the one with the $250 console - might manage to outpace Sony for the first time, Kutaragi replied, “We don’t care.” Apparently, in Sony’s mind, if you ignore you competition, they disappear. Logical…if you’re twelve.

Immediately after making this awesomely-retarded comment, Kutaragi admitted that the PS3 is facing a massive blue diode shortage that will significantly impact how many PS3s Sony can pump out at any given time:
“Right now, it is an issue, because we can’t manufacture enough blue laser diodes for our PlayStation 3s. But we will resolve that.”
Now all they need to do is pretend that their console ISN’T in a class of its own (seriously guys, that “fine dinner” analogy was retarded…gaming is a hobby, not a life-changing investment) and they might stand a chance of beating Microsoft’s large head start, larger library, proven networking service, and legions of dedicated Xbox Livers. Or they could pretend that they’re the only show in town until they implode. The choice is yours, guys.

Wow, his statement is ignorant and cocky, but again we wotn know until we see the final product in the market.
The thing is, Sony can’t afford to care with the PS3. They’ve decided to care about BluRay and not take the 1.18 billion dollar hit on the PS3 if they don’t want a second BetaMax. They’ve put the longrun in front of the short run, and if they sound like pricks, it’s because they haven’t got a choice. I’m sure no gamers really want to think that their beloved, and, before, underpriced, console is second to some HD media… or so, it seems, Kutaragi thinks.
I’m on board with the 360 and the Wiivolution, but I wouldn’t cross a street to get a PS3 if they were giving them away.
As for HD media…well…what’s out there in HD that’s so frickin’ great that I should blow a couple week’s pay on a PS3, and a few months’ pay on a proper HD monitor JUST so I can watch in in high def? Nothing, that’s what. So no thank you, Sony. DVDs are just fine by me, and I think you’re going to find they’re just fine for a lot of people.
Solve your product shortage problems before you start making your grandiose statements, Kutaragi.
