SONY should have their own ecosystem. They already have half of the work done with services like PSN. This will be great competition. I personally love Sony hardware design quality, they just need to get their software straight.

The thing I've noticed about Sony over the years is, they keep trying to go mainstream with proprietary formats.

Just off the top of my head, I can think of Betamax vcr's, Mini disc players, memory sticks.

Sony builds good products, but I see no real reason to buy Sony over another brand unless the value exceeds other brands.

I hope the Vita OS becomes a rival to iOS and Android plus Windows. This a great idea from Kaz. If they do it fast and right it will help them a lot.

Indeed, Sony was trying to build an ecosystem ever since the first VAIO's were launched. I worked at Sony selling VAIOs and they wanted to create something similar to iTunes by that time for music and video. The problem is that they haven't been able to optimize their products for this (PS, Walkman, VAIO, TVs) and they haven't offered a better or at least equal alternative to Apple. We'll see if they can push it ahead this time.

SONY is actually the one able to compete with this kind of integrate system against Apple, and according to what SONY has behind its brand (cloud computing, TV producers (three TV channels, or more), Cinema, Music, Consoles, etc., it probably has even more potential than Apple though badly used.
I believe Hirai is one of those guys able to find that potential, let's see how he works.

Good Luck SONY, we all trust you (even those no accepting the reality)
