Sony Xperia Z3 D6603 stops by the FCC

We've seen glimpses of Sony's next flagship before, but now it seems that it might be coming sooner than expected. A certain PM-0800-BV, also known as the Sony D6603 and speculated to be the Xperia Z3, entered the FCC database, giving rise to speculation that Sony might make the upcoming smartphone available in the US earlier than usual.

That Sony will be revealing a new flagship just 6 months after it's current one is known. The manufacturer seems bent on following a device launch schedule that seem to be the trend among the likes of Samsung and LG, roughly releasing two high-end devices a year. However, Sony isn't quite fast in launching its products when it comes to the US market. Case in point, the Xperia Z1 Compact only became available last week, when it was announced early January. The fact that this supposed Xperia Z3 is already at the FCC hints that Sony is preparing the device for early approval and, hopefully, early launch.

FCC sightings don't usually give out much new information, unless they happen to include photos of the device. Here, we are getting some insight on the network support that the Xperia Z3 will have, which isn't really that surprising. The device is listed with support for a wide range of LTE and GSM bands, both for international networks as well as those specific to the US alone. Again, this fuels the theory that a US release will take place soon after its announcement.

Other than that, we know very little about the Xperia Z3, and actually might know more about the Xperia Z3 compact. But given the small incremental change between the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z2, we can expect that the Xperia Z3 might yet be another somewhat disappointing small step up, with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 or hopefully an 805. The camera is expected to again max out at 20.7 megapixels, which seems to be the current limit of Sony's smartphone camera sensor capabilities.

If all goes according to schedule, and Sony is predictable almost like clockwork, we will get to see the Xperia Z3 at IFA 2014 in September. That said, Sony also has a poor reputation for keeping leaks at bay, so we will definitely hear and see more about this new flagship before then.
