Sony Xperia Tablet Z: Kitchen Edition 10" slate unveiled with chef-centric content

Sony has taken a bit of a surprise route with its Xperia Tablet Z, releasing a special edition for chefs and cooking enthusiasts called the Xperia Tablet Z: Kitchen Edition. Offering all the hardware particulars as its non-niche cousin, the Kitchen Edition is also loaded with a variety of content related to cooking, as well as some accessories.

Among the cooking content is what Sony says amounts to $115 worth of recipes, accessories, and various content, among them being an iGrill Bluetooth meat thermometer that works in conjunction with an app for temperature monitoring from anywhere in the home or kitchen (up to 200 feet, anyway). There's also a stand for the tablet so that it can be propped up in the kitchen.

Also included is BigOven, which comes with 250,000+ recipes and allows one to add their own recipes, access recipes from friends, to create menus, and to create grocery lists. There's Evernote Food, which functions as one would expect Evernote to function with a food-centric purpose, Food Planner Pro, Juicing Recipes, and Out of Milk Shopping List.

There are also 260 preloaded "classic recipes" on the slate, as well as an instructional video series by Saveur magazine. As for the tablet itself, the Xperia Tablet Z: Kitchen Edition features a 10.1-inch HD display, a Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, and 32GB of storage space. Sony points out the design — particularly the water resistance — will help protect it in a kitchen environment.

The tablet is available for purchase now from Sony's online store and its retail stores for $649 USD.
